Prize Fighter originally released to the SEGA CD in 1993, and is described as taking players “closer than a ringside seat” as the game “puts you right in the game”. Interestingly, the digital release is being developed by and published by Screaming Villains, with no mention of...

I just think, what if it had a sequel that covered its flaws with fixes? Or what if they went with a Sega All-Star approach than just Virtua Fighter.

Either way, Virtua Quest is likely non-canon anyway.

SEGA Heroes was probably also non-canon but I still played them because I enjoyed its gameplay.

I wish I got round to playing it. It still bothers me that Marvel Puzzle Quest got a PC release and Sega Heroes didn't. I recall you said it was because of online functions, but they could've re-released a PC-modified version or something.

But, meh, I dunno. Maybe I'm just a bit of a weirdo to find that I like Virtua Quest "unironically" (to a fair degree) and got me thinking of stuff that, as usual, never going to happen. While we may not have any more instalments to the Sega All-Stars series, at least Crossworld is stepping up a bit with guest characters.

Despite the criticism Virtua Quest has, it's still a decent action-adventure fighting game. And to those who love Virtua Fighter, whenever you come across a Virtua Soul, you dunno who you're going to get... unless you played the game before.

I'm not denying the game is bad or why it is bad. It can be infuriating at times, especially climbing up that construction yard for the ninja guy, this game clearly needed a year or two to cook some more. But I don't think it's that bad of a game.

I wouldn't oppose if we get a spin-off of the spin-off where Nexus consist of servers based on Sega games and "Souls" of characters other than Virtua Fighters. A "Captain N: The Games Master" approach. And yes, I also unironically like Captain N, it's not that hard to regard it as a parody to enjoy it.

We did have SEGA games where they're kinda having "Captain N: The Games Master" approach.
SEGAGAGA is kinda like that, right?
Also that mobile game which never got localized, but the difference is that SEGA characters here are waivunized and becoming evil and we got to recruit them to make them good again.

I sometimes wonder/fantasize, if I could make a spin-off Smash Bros game, like the Pokémon games, it would come in two versions.
A red version that consist of Nintendo fighters.
A blue version that consist of Sega fighters.

The thing is, these games were not localized to the west, so we never got a proper consensus on how these games would be received. From what little gameplay footage of 404 GAME RE:SET, kind of disappointed in it. I liked the concept and the story it was putting down, but looked like a mobile puzzle-shooter game than anything substantial.

We know "massive multiplayer crossovers" is a popular genre for games, but such crossovers centred around a protagonist that represents both audience and brand, such as Kevin Keene and Taro Sega, well dunno how well received that concept is. Captain N for example was regarded a bad DiC cartoon with terrible adaption of Nintendo characters. But, in its defence:
  • It was one of the first of its kind of cartoons, with Nintendo commissioning DiC to make such a crossover cartoon despite the shortcoming. It also plays on the "I wish i was in the video game!" fantasy most kids had back then.
  • Kevin Keene is supposed to be the hero of the series. If he was surrounded by competent heroes such as badass vampire-slayer Simon Belmont, hyper-adaptive battle robot Mega Man and herald rapid-fire archer Kid Icarus, it would be a really hard sell to make some random gamer with a laser-gun be the hero amongst the group.
  • The best way to take the series as a grain of salt is to accept the Nintendo (as well as Konami and Capcom) characters as parodies of themselves.
Do you think if Sega released "something along the likes" of Captain N, but with Sega characters, it would be popular?

There was already one back then, Ninetndo vs SEGA SBB-like game, in MUGEN when MUGEN was still using DOS, used to play it.
I couldn't find it again though when MUGEN switched using Windows. It wasn't playable in Windows anyway.

There were also area explorings too, but of course not as detailed as console games.

Back when it's still 16-Bit era may be, but right now I doubt it.

There was a time I had rough ideas for my own platform fighting game in style of mash Bros, but with low-poly fields and 2D fighters. But I gave up on the idea given I didn't wanted to rip off Smash Bros at the time.

Now, I just wish for more Sonic characters in Smash Bros.

The fact it was a mobile game held it back.

For example, it's why I prefer Chain Chronicles' anime over the actual game itself. Chain Chronicles anime shows awesome fight scenes and the like, while the game itself just look like a tower defence RPG combat game.

Why not something based on the 16-bit era?

I came up with the concept of "Virtua City". I like to imagine Virtua City as a metropolis where various Sega characters can co-exist. If you are familiar with CN City, kind of like that but with Sega characters instead of Cartoon Network characters.

It is Virtua City where Judgement Six reside and host the Virtua Fighter tournament. But Virtua City also has various sports stadiums that other Virtua game are based on. There is also a "Sega World" or Joypolis at the heart of Virtua City.
Throughout the city, there are also warp rings that allow Sega characters to come and go from the worlds of their video games.

I haven't decided if Virtua City is an actual place, somewhere probably in Japan or America, or, like the Nexus from Virtua Quest, Virtua City resides in a virtual reality and require Sega-licence NerveGear-like device to access it. Or, like Digimon, can be accessed from reality to digital.

Two ideas I had around Virtua City:
  • A story set in the mid-90s where a girl is on her way to Virtua City. She either won a Sega contest which rewarded her with a trip to Virtua City, or she is parttaking in a contest hosted in Virtua City. Her time there gets caught up with Judgement Six' evil scheme. Judgement Six consisting of various Sega villains.
  • A reboot of Sega Hard Girls, about normal, regular girls who attend an All-Girls school in Virtua City. However, the group of friends gains the power to magically transform into their Sega Hard Girl counterparts as they solve problems around Virtua City.

Assuming that there will be Super Smash Bros game again.
Ah, who am I kidding, of course there will be one later.
Nintendo doesn't hate money.

The fact it was a mobile game held it back.

Yeah, it showed its ages.
Meanwhile Total War games on mobile is as good as its PC counterpart.
But man, seeing how many GB I have to download into my phones, I have to be picky about games that I kept in phones.

Why not something based on the 16-bit era?

That sounds like Disney Dreamlight Valley, just with SEGA characters.
I like the name Virtua City, though.
Back then SEGA used to name their games with Virtua in it and most of them were good.
