The team worked hard on this one to bring what id consider our best Carbon Engine title to date.
It's packed full of features.
Emulation is perfectly integer scaled on Native screen modes. Stretch and 4:3 aspect ratios are also including and are interpolated.
Sparkster  'Boost Mode' removes the slowdown on the SNES version. It can also be disabled of course.

I only played the Game Gear version... but I hears the sountrack was beautiful.

I also heard the name derived from John C. Lilly, a controversial scientist who believed in an alien organization called the Earth Coincidence Control Office or E.C.C.O. and was also noted for his work with Dolphins.

It's actually a coincidence, but a coincidence that Ed likes since he also likes John C. Lilly.
Ed's boss Clyde Grossman was the one who named it Echo which then Ed changed into Ecco because Ecco's speeling is more likable than Echo.

It is a more pleasing name.

Yep, even Kolibri (SEGA 32X) while we're at it.
Ecco and Kolibri were created by Ed Annunziata.
Did you know that Ed recently has just released Kolibri Coloring Book?

No I did not.

So is that whywe hardly had any Ecco games? Because of licencing issues?

It's not licensing issue, the IP holder is still SEGA.
It's just SEGA won't do anything about it in respect of the creator.
Just like Bayonetta.
SEGA owns Bayonetta but Bayonetta's future sequel is up to Platinum Games.
