But Sammy's main interest was casino and amusement entertainment. Sonic '06 was the first Sonic game made after the merger and you can tell it shows how much Sega had changed after the merger.

SEGA of Japan's main business were also arcade and amusement entertainment management, so actually they're kinda fit.
Still I believe Sammy's main interest, like any other company's interest, is money.
Casino and amusement entertainment are just tools. If they're not making any money anymore, they would not hesitate to let it go, just like they sold arcade management business to GiGO.

Due to the different culture of east (SEGA of Japan) and west (Microsoft), I'd rather they go alone.
Microsoft has tried Japan market but their strategy failed hard.
SEGA is at least still remembered fondly by most Japanese due its arcade centers, UFO catchers, and Japanese-oriented games (Yakuza, Sakura Wars, Sangokushi Taisen series).
