Phantasy Star Online II seems to be off to a strong start.
The free-to-play online RPG has been out in Japan since July 4th and in that time has amassed 730,000 registered players worldwide, SEGA reports.
With a Western release not planned (for whatever reason) until sometime in 2013, the number of Western users currently playing has been great enough that SEGA is now considering opening up international servers for the Japanese version.
The game is set to receive multiple updates this August.

It’s tough to say because the game’s, of course, free to play.
Sega does seem very confident in the ‘free-to-play’ model so I’m assuming they’re making money on it but who knows.
Well, even after becoming free to play, the japanese PC/PS2 version of PSU barely reached 250 thousand registered accounts in its lifetime, so I guess PSO2 is doing really well. 😛
