Creative Assembly is making Halo Wars 2

That’s right, SEGA is making a Halo game. Microsoft closed off their Gamescom briefing today by announcing Halo Wars 2, which is being developed by Creative Assembly in co-operation with 343 Industries. This sequel to the 2009 RTS will be coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 in fall of 2016. There are no other details about the game yet, though MS did release the teaser trailer you see above.

This is the fourth game that Creative Assembly is currently developing, the other games the studio is currently working on are Total War: Warhammer, Total War: Arena and Total War Battles: Kingdom.

I really dont see it Sega making a Halo game.

Its more of Atlus set up that they have for SMT X FE game.

    Its a Microsoft game

surely it’s not Sega-Halo, Creative + Microsoft surely it’s the most non-Sega thing that we can publish.

Unfortunately this decreases the chances of a sequel to Alien Isolation 🙁

Anyway, since sega is somehow related to this project I might purchase my first halo game next year 🙂

Aside from a Sega developer working on the game, I highly doubt they’ll co publish this with MS. Guess we’ll find out in due course.

    one question WHY?

  6. @keeppassingcars says:

    Ok.

    1) There was no mention of Sega during the credits.

    2) it’s not a Sega IP.

Happy to be proven wrong though. Guess time will tell.

“Sony has nothing to do with the Playstation. It’s the Playstation Hardware Division who makes it, not Sony”

This is how some of you sound. CA belongs to Sega. It is a Sega studio.
Reminder that Sonic Battle didn’t say Sega anywhere on the box, and was still (obviously) a Sega game.

Haha. It was just an opinion. That’s all.

OK. For arguments sake, SEGA are involved somehow, that much we do know. But to what extent (are they publishing the game?) we don’t yet know.

Either way, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really matter.

They’re developing the game. 343 Industries is a company that’s involved with every Halo game now, so I doubt that they’re that involved (kinda like Sonic Team having their name on Dimps games).

It seems we need a more clearer definition of what a true Sega game is and isn’t, I can see the points from both sides here, but that typical unique Sega’ish flavour does seem suitably absent in a game concerning the Halo franchise and universe, it depends how much direct involvement Sega has with it, maybe if they add a few Sega bells and whistled and fan service, it’ll feel more like a Sega game rather than merely a game with a ‘Sega’ emblazoned over it.

I’m not sure how SEGA has to mean a certain style of game, especially seeing how they’ve done lots of different kinds of games in the past. I mean, Shinobi is nothing like Sonic the Hedgehog, which is nothing like Jet Set Radio, which is nothing like SEGA Rally etc. There’s no one true SEGA style.

The Creative Assembly is SEGA just as much as anyone else at SEGA is. I mean, defining if a studio is really part of SEGA by if they’ve been always been part of it is ridiculous considering everyone there used to not be part of the company at some point. Especially considering that Creative Assembly has been a part of SEGA longer than certain SEGA studios existed at all. For example: Smilebit.

As time goes by, part of the fanbase are really forgetting what made games a SEGA games.
Some fanservice inside a game will not make it a Sega game, Bayonetta had some sega fanservice but wasn’t Sega at all, it was just a Platinum game, published by Sega, who own the IP, nothing more.

People who see Sega style in Platinum or Creatives games, or say that Sega style doesn’t even exists, should really think about why they are Sega fans in the first place…

So knowing what we know about Halo Wars 2 and the fact that it’s being developed by CA (and 343), do you think SEGA will publish or co-publish with MS?
