If you didn’t know, Super Mario Maker will allow you to use your Amiibos to unlock ‘skins’, in case you got bored of controlling a slightly overweight mustached man. The one above is the Sonic the Hedgehog skin, that looks like it was ripped from the first Sonic the Hedgehog on the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive. Meaning, its actually 16-bit, yet its being used in Mario’s 8-bit NES style game. Its a shame, I’m actually a fan of the Sonic the Hedgehog‘s 8-bit look.
But what do you guys think of this unlockable? Are any of you guys picking Super Mario Maker when it comes out this September? Hit the jump to see Sonic in action after the jump.
Sonic in Mario game? No, thanks.
Mega Man in Mario game? No, thanks.
Pac-Man in Mario game? No, thanks.
I blame Sega for their poor choice in resources. Mega Man has his 8-bit sprites, so does Pac-Man, but Sonic is more 16-bit than 8-bit. It’s like SEGA doesn’t even care anymore. It’s time that SEGA just dies. And Yes, August. I’m picking up Super Mario Maker regardless… but I’m not using Sonic.
He has an SMS one tho
That is precisely what I thought when I looked at the screenshot.
Why not use 8-bit Sonic. 16-bit does not blend well.
Looking at the screenshot I thought it looked a bit out of place. Looking at the video, it looks like Sonic’s not the only one. Well, it’s optional anyway. I was gonna pick up Mario Maker regardless.
They use 16-bit Sonic because his original debut was in the 16-bit world. This is 99% likely Sega’s decision.
This game will very probably be a hit so it’s a good thing to have a sonic skin in it
What a mess, my grand ma can design better Sonic than Nintendo- Terrible!
