Nintendo and Atlus have continued their partnership by showing off a couple of new trailers and screenshots for the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem crossover game (being tentatively titled Genei Ibun Roku #FE).
One of the new trailers (above) shows off Tsubasa Oribe, a new playable character created for this game. Honestly the Japanese trailer just left me with more questions, but I guess its nice to see Oribe in a lot of different outfits?
The trailer after the jump shows off side stories from the upcoming game.
Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem (aka Genei Ibun Roku #FE) comes out in Japan on December 26th exclusively for the Wii U. Suppose to launch in the West sometime in 2016. What are your thoughts on it? Weird? Ad:
This is so far from what I imagined when the project was first announced…so far away. So many issues with this.
1. It seems to flow more like Persona than SMT, which isn’t a problem in and of itself, and I realize Persona itself is part of the SMT series…but this just isn’t what I envisioned.
2. It seems to be so far away from either franchise’s legacy. Where’s the high fantasy from Fire Emblem? Where’s the dark, macabre tone from SMT? What’s with all the generic anime shenanigans?
3. For a crossover game, I’m not seeing the faces of endearing characters from either side, and those that I do see are so redesigned as to effectively be different characters.
I just don’t really understand why they would waste an opportunity to appeal to fans of either series and instead focus on an audience that has traditionally only been slightly interested. It would be like if Super Smash Bros completely redesigned every character and made it a high school anime comedy where you get to play dress up with the characters and then occasionally have a fight.

This looks like Persona x Phantasy Star more than SMT x FE…
I do want it.
