Sonic Generations – Six Screens from Speedy Highway!

Take a gander at these high-speed Sonic Generations screenshots featuring ‘Speedy Highway’ (first seen in Sonic Adventure) now in glorious HD!

I remember playing Sonic Adventure when it first released on Dreamcast and that one particular set piece in Seedy Highway where Sonic Runs down the side of a sky scraper blew my mind. I’d never seen anything so mind bending, graphically stunning (for its time) and fast in a videogame before. It will stay with me for ever; I hope Sonic Generations can recapture the magic of Speedy Highway!

Aliens: Colonial Marines – E3 Demo Footage

When Aliens: Colonial Marines was shown to the press behind closed doors at E3 2011 it seemed to be very well received. Now the rest of us unworthy peons can finally all see why. Narrated by Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford here is a walkthrough of Aliens: Colonial Marines second missions as shown at E3.

Any Aliens fan can tell you that the guys at Gearbox have gone above and beyond to recreate the world and atmosphere of the Aliens movie. With online drop-in Co-Op for up to 4 players I hope for some intence fire-fights with my friends.

I think the game looks beautiful, the graphics are great and the atmosphere seems authentic. If I have one small complaint it would be with the fire and muzzle flash effects looking a bit dated and the tracer bullets looking a bit bulky and cartoonish. Otherwise, everything looks superb and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

From this first look Aliens: Colonial Marines looks as though it’s shaping up to be something special, fingers crossed!

Review: Renegade Ops

Gameplay is Renegade Ops‘ strongest point. (Which feels like it should be a given, considering it’s a videogame. In this day I often get the feeling gameplay takes a back seat to plot and graphics, as it attempts to pretend it isn’t a game we’re playing but an interactive movie.) For me, gameplay always comes first, because I like my games fast, fun, action-packed and challenging. I’m happy to report that Renegade Ops has all of these qualities in spades.

Total War: Shogun 2 – Rise of the Samurai Trailer

Total War: Shogun 2 will be getting its first major expansion soon, titled ‘Rise of the Samurai’.

“In the “Rise of the Samurai” campaign, players take on a brand new and independent campaign for Total War: SHOGUN 2 set in 12th century Japan. Set 400 years before the dramatic civil war depicted in Total War: SHOGUN 2, the “Rise of The Samurai” campaign is based on the Gempei War, a conflict between six legendary clans of the Taira, Minamoto and Fujiwara families. It culminated in the first Shogunate, and the rise of the Samurai as the ruling class.”

Phantasy Star Online 2 – Awesome Gameplay with Dragons!

PSO2 just keeps looking better! Check out this game play/developer diary with Dragon Sakai and that other woman…
The game play starts at around the 4:00 mark where they enter what looks like a giant cave level and fight a dragon multiple times.

Also worth noting is the use of telepipes and what looks like some kind of latency stress test at the end of the video; the very end gave me a chuckle.

Guardian Heroes – Japanese Trailer

Check this out, Sega Japan has released a new trailer for Guardian Heroes and it’s looking bloody good! If this doesn’t fill you with warm bubbly nostalgia I don’t know what will. From the cheesy music to the bright, bold graphics this reminds me of a better, simpler time for gaming.

Guardian Heroes will be released on October 12th exclusively for XBLA and will cost you $10.

Rise of Nightmares – Controls Trailer

Yet another quirky trailer for Rise of Nightmares, Sega’s zombie-slaying Kinect exclusive, has hit the net. The trailer highlights the unique control scheme and shows how much people are enjoying it, (or not).

Rise of Nightmares releases this month (September 2011) exclusively for Kinect. Who’s getting it!?

Sonic CD Teaser Trailer

Well here’s an interesting trailer! They introduce the trailer with a Sonic 4 sprite running into a Past sign and turning back into the Sonic CD sprite! Is it just a gimmick or some kind of hint towards the direction of Sonic 4 Episode 2? Hard to say!

It has been confirmed that Sonic CD will use the Japanese/Euro version of the sound track, which is a good thing! Apparently this isn’t an emulated port but it actually runs on a fan made engine called ‘The Retro Engine’ developed by someone going by the name ‘The Taxman’. That doesn’t mean much to me but by the reaction of the Sonic fans it’s a good thing and so long as Backbone isn’t involved that’s a plus judging by their previous port work for Sega.

Sonic CD will be available for XBLA, PSN, iPhone, iPod touch, iPad™, Windows PC Digital Download, Android and Windows Phone and will be available for download in late 2011.

I also read something about looping sound tracks and ‘Sonic 2 spindash or CD style.’ Which I’m sure means something to someone…

Phantasy Star Online 2 Media Briefing – Fan Subbed!

[Part 1]

I’m sure any avid PSO fan remembers that not so long ago there was a media briefing in Japan for Phantasy Star Online 2, given by the games producer ‘Dragon Sakai’ (Satoshi Sakai). The problem with Japanese media briefings is that, well, they’re in Japanese, a made up language that nobody really understands, similar to talking in tongues.

Thankfully fans exist and so the fan dub was born and so at long last we can present the entire Media Briefing subbed in English. The briefing was translated by Jeremiah Bourque while Ian R. Justman and Velocity7 who did the audio editing, and subtitling, so give them all a round of applause!

Hit the jump for part 2 and part 3 of the briefing!

Anarchy Reigns: Multiplayer Anarchy Trailer

Another trailer fresh from Games Com 2011, check out the Anarchy Reigns ‘Multiplayer Anarchy’ trailer. The character designers over at Platinum Games went wild with this game and the combos are stylish and brutal another of Platinum’s calling cards!

The trailer shows off game modes including Death Match (kill everyone), Survival (team up and defeat the horde) and at the end of the trailer what looks like a hint at some kind of Vs. American football style game with weapons! The trailer also shows that you can pick up items and weapons from the battlefield and use them against your enemies! Yet another similarity to Power Stone!

Anarchy Reigns will release in January 2012 for Xbox360 and PS3.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games Trailer

It’s Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games… What a mouthful!
If there is something I don’t think anyone could fault Sega for, it’s their very impressive CGI and Mario/Sonic/London as I’m now calling it does not disappoint on the CGI front!

A great trailer and hopefully a great game! Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games will release for the Nintendo Wii on November 15th in North America, November 18th in Europe and the DS version will release Febuary 2012.

Today possible new details have emerged in the forum of a list detailing games in development for the PS Vita from various 3rd party publishers has leaked and guess what? Yep, Sega won’t disappoint!

Hit the jump to find out what they are!

Renegade Ops: Upgrade Trailer

A brand new trailer for Sega and Avalanche Studios new IP, Renegade Ops!

Renegade Ops is a throw back to the great vehicle shooters of old like Jackle and Desert Strike, only now with awesome HD graphics and all the other bells and whistles like online 4-player Co-Op and 2 Player split screen! I think the game looks awesome myself, this trailer primarily focuses on the upgrades and perks you can use to boost your vehicles performance but it’s the online multiplayer Co-Op and combo system that have really got me excited to get my hands on this game, not to mention it’s on Steam, always a good call!

Renegade Ops will be available on XBLA, PSN and Steam on September 12, 2011. Don’t miss it!
