Sakura Wars the Animation joins Funimation’s Spring 2020 Line Up

Next month, the animated sequel to Sakura Wars (2019), Sakura Wars the Animation, will be joining Funimation’s Spring 2020 Line Up for viewers to watch the anime though subtitles while airing simultaneous in Japan on April 3rd.

Taking place after the events of Sakura Wars (2019), New Flower Division team is transferred to Europe by Seijuro Kamiyama, and Sakura Amamiya was appointed Deputy Commander. Kamiyama returns home temporarily to the Flower Division who all struggle every day, but there is an unknown girl beside named Clara, who is the only survivor of the Moscow group that was destroyed after a major accident . Sakura welcomes Clara, who was commissioned by Kamiyama and transferred to the Flower Division. Meanwhile, a group that claims to be “Moscow Assault Force” suddenly appears in the Imperial City.

Based on the video game franchise, Sakura Wars the Animation arrives this spring from studio SANZIGEN and director Manabu Ono (Sword Art Online: Alicization). The series stars Ayane Sakura (My Hero Academia) as Sakura, Ayaka Fukuhara (Captain Tsubasa) as Anastasia, Maaya Uchida (GOBLIN SLAYER) as Hatsuho and Youhei Azakami (The Seven Deadly Sins) as Seijuro.

Shin Sakura Taisen receives new update to promote The Animation & gameplay improvements

SEGA had recently released an automatic update to Shin Sakura Taisen (aka Sakura Wars) with new improvements and features for the game. Starting off with one of the newer features, Sakura Amamiya, one of the main heroines, receives a new Reiko Mugen Fighter mech and special attacks to promote the upcoming Shin Sakura Taisen the Animation set to air in Japan on April 3rd.

Other improvements include conversation message log display function, a lock-on function during battle, key assignment change, optional save / load from settings, adjustment of “World Koikoi Taisen”, removal of distribution prohibited section of share function, etc.

This update would surely also help with the localization version for new players who are interested in trying Sakura Wars for the first time.

Shin Sakura Taisen the Animation broadcast date announced with First Look Clips

During the Sakura Wars livestream this morning, Shin Sakura Taisen the Animation (translated as New Sakura Wars the Animation) will be broadcasted in Japan every Friday starting on April 3rd on Tokyo MX 1 at 22:00 JST & BS 11 at 23:00 JST.

This season is truly perfect for Sakura Wars with the new game coming to the West on April 28th. I hope we can watch the anime during the same time it airs in Japan. Hit the jump after the break to see preview clips of an episode featuring the character, Clara and ED credits.

Shin Sakura Taisen the Animation Story Trailer revealed and Sakura Taisen Blu-Ray Box Collection set for release this Spring

In the recent Sakura Wars official live stream, SEGA unveiled a brand new trailer and key visual of Shin Sakura Taisen the Animation set for release in April 2020. The Animation takes place after the events of the Shin Sakura Taisen game with the New Flower Division team being transferred to Europe by Seijuro Kamiyama, and Sakura Amamiya was appointed Deputy Commander.

The trailer also reveals a new Assault Force team hailing from Moscow (Mossika Hussarge, Valerie Kaminsky, and Leila with character designs by Mika Pikazo) who will all be appearing exclusively to the anime. In addition, there will be a Blu-Ray collection of the Sakura Taisen OVA (Original Video Animation) series set to release in Japan on March 18, 2020 for 35,000 yen ($320.84). The original OVA series served as prequels and side stories to the games and is a nice collection set if you have been a fan of the series. TGS 2019: Shin Sakura Taisen the Animation coming to Japanese TV in 2020

During SEGA’s Tokyo Game Show Live Stream, SEGA has made an announcement that Shin Sakura Taisen will receive an TV anime adaptation in 2020. The anime will be CGI and directed by Manabu Ono, known for directing several popular anime series such as “The Irregular At Magic High School” and “Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere”. It’s been almost 20 years since we had an TV anime adaptation of Sakura Taisen. With the game releasing to the west later next year, I have fingers crossed for Shin Sakura Taisen the Animation to be picked up in the US and localized.
