SEGA FES 2018: Valkyria Chronicles 1 coming to Nintendo Switch, Valkyria Chronicles 4 for Switch delayed in Japan

More news has come out of SEGA FES 2018, this time relating to the Valkyria Chronicles franchise. It was announced that the original Valkyria Chronicles, which has already released to the PC and PS4 as a remastered rerelease of the PS3 original, would be releasing to Nintendo Switch for ¥1,990. At the moment, the release is only confirmed for Japan this fall through the eShop. No word on a physical or western release.

SEGA also revealed that Valkyria Chronicles 4 has been delayed in Japan to fall 2018. The game was originally planned for the platform in the summer. As an apology to fans, SEGA is offering coupons to Japanese customers who are buying the fourth game that reduces the price of the remaster of the first game to ¥500. No word on if this will affect the western release, but given the west is getting Valkyria Chronicles 4 in the fall already, it is not likely.

Now how about console ports of the second and third games SEGA? 🙂

Shining Resonance Refrain Only Shifts 23k Units in Japan

Shining Resonance Yuuma Jenius

Shining Resonance Refrain has launched in Japan and it has not put up great numbers. The game debuted number 6 in the Japanese Media Crate charts only shifting 23,054 units, this only being on the PlayStation 4 in Japan. The game was even outsold by Far Cry 5 which shifted 75,474 units! SEGA also saw a massive drop in sales for Valkyria Chronicles 4, with the game only making the chart at 9,108 units sold this week (bringing the total to 72,029). SEGA’s Hokuto ga Gotoku also charted at number 17 by selling 4,604 units (bringing the total to 156,805).

I have to say its not a great time for SEGA’s Japanese sales, all these numbers seem rather low. I guess we will have to see if they try to ‘shift’ directions once again. Who knows, maybe a few of these games will do good in the West?

Valkyria Chronicles 4 debuts in 2nd place in Japan, beating Ni no Kuni II

ValkyriaChronicles4-1024x576

The battle of the Japanese RPGs (of sorts) is underway in Japan. This week we got a few notable releases in the land of the rising sun including Valkyria Chronicles 4 (PS4), Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom (PS4), Dectective Pikachu (3DS), and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition (Switch)! While Valkyria Chronicles 4 beat all these debuting games, it was Kirby: Star Allies that still took first place even though it came out last week. Kirby has some staying power over in Japan.

Valkyria Chronicles sold 62,921 units in its debut week, while Ni no Kuni II (3rd place) sold 56,014. As for Kirby: Star Allies, it got a whopping 84,625 units (bringing its title to 306,656 units!). Valkyria Chronicles will also get a Nintendo Switch version released later this year in Japan while we in the west will be getting it on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch day one, sometime in 2018. Check out the full chart after the break:

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is getting a Season Pass

Valkyria-Chronicles-4_2017_11-19-17_001

It seems that Valkyria Chronicles 4 will be getting a Season Pass, at least in Japan which will get you post-launch DLC content. The Season Pass will cost you 4,000 JPY ($37.50 USD), saving you 1,000 JPY ($9.36 USD) if you bought each piece of DLC separately.

As for as to what will come with the Season Pass, we have a breakdown after the jump:

Valkyria Chronicles 4 Amazon listing gives an October 16, 2018 release date

WCCFvalkyriachronicles4-740x429

It looks like we finally have a release date for the western release of the hotly anticipated, and highly praised, Valkyria Chronicles 4! According to new Amazon listings, the game will be due out October 16, 2018. A fitting time of year given the game itself takes place in a snowy setting. Pre-orders are not live yet, but when they are you can pre-order the game at the following links. No word yet on the expected launch editions, but I’m pretty sure all pre-order listings will default to a steelbook or art book or sticker sheet or magic decoder ring launch edition.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 gets positive review from Famitsu

ValkyriaChronicles4

The PlayStation 4 version of Valkyria Chronicles 4 is hitting Japan March 21, meaning that early Japanese reviews are being release. One of the first ones we got to see is Weekly Famitsu Magazine’s review which scored the game 9/9/9/8 [35/40]. If you don’t know how Weekly Famitsu does scores, they get 4 people to review the game and add up the points. Valkyria Chronicles 4 was the 2nd highest reviewed game this week, being beaten out by Ni no Kuni II. Check out the full scores after the jump:

Valkyria Chronicles 4 getting Japanese PSN demo on February 26

Valkyria-Chronicles-famtisu

Oh boy, SEGA is releasing these Japanese demos faster than I can keep up. Just a few days ago we got the Hokuto ga Gotoku demo on Japanese PSN, now less than a week from that one we will be getting a Valkyria Chronicles 4 demo. According to SEGA they will be unleashing the playable demo they have been showing at events in Japan. The demo releases on February 26, 2018.

According to early players, the demo allows users to play from the prologue all the way through chapter 2. It also seems that the save data can be transferred over to the full game when its released (in Japan). So if you are going to import the game, you can continue where the demo ends and not replay it from the start.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 on PlayStation 4 is launching in Japan on March 21, 2018. As for us Westerners, we get the game later in 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. I also hope SEGA releases a similar demo for all platforms, since I think it will move more copies.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 gets prologue Japanese trailer

SEGA has released a brand spanking new trailer for the upcoming Valkyria Chronicles 4 that goes over the game’s prologue and sets up what will be the game’s upcoming story. Considering that Valkyria Chronicles 4 takes place at the same time as the first game, just following a different squad, you should already know the basic premise for the war going on (that’s assuming you played the first game).

While SEGA West has been kinda silent on the game since they announced it coming west, we we do know is that its coming sometime this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 trailer shows off new gameplay mechanics

The trailer above was shown off during the live stream for Valkyria Chronicles 4, which shows off a lot of the in-game mechanics SEGA has been talking about recently. The new trailer also shows off a brand new stage features such as environmental effects like fire and blizzards which can block areas in the map, making the user rethink their strategy during a match.

Another new features shown in the trailer is a “Dummy Tank” that is basically a decoy. Out side of that, it seems to have a lot of what we all loved from the first game and that isn’t a bad thing. Valkyria Chronicles 4 hits Japan on March 21, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and later on for Nintendo Switch. While we in the West will get the game sometime in 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
