The Weekly Five: Genesis/Mega Drive classics that deserve the retro engine treatment

WeeklyFiveRetroEngine
Ever since SEGA announced the Sonic CD re-release running on the Retro Engine, I had a long list of retro titles that I wanted to see use the engine. Then after awhile SEGA stopped announcing titles for it, then out of the blue they announce Sonic 1 & 2 re-releases using the engine. As much as I love Sonic, there are plenty of SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive games that I would love to see running on the Retro Engine. Check out the five games I would want to get the Retro Engine treatment and what type of extras I would love to see for them.

SEGA AGES PS2 games making their way to Japanese PSN

SEGA has announced that Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box and Dynamite Dekka (Die-Hard Arcade) will soon be making its way to the Japanese PSN. They are part of SEGA’s AGES 2500 line, Playstation 2 remakes of classic SEGA games for the Playstation 2. Now SEGA is pulling a inception and putting them on PSN.

But more people here will be interested in the first game SEGA is going to release on the PSN PS2 archives service, Dragon Force (trailer). That one will hit PSN on July 25th. SEGA West, we want these, please?

Gunstar Heroes arrives on iPhones

One of my favorite Genesis games, Gunstar Heroes, is now on the iPhone (and iPod Touch as well, I assume). The game will run you $2.99. Wow, that is like a cup of coffee for one of the best Genesis games ever.

If that wasn’t enough, the game has bluetooth multiplayer. That is pretty awesome.

SEGA announces new iPhone games and MMO [update]

I’ll start off with the one that is the most shocking. You might remember a while ago that SEGA trademarked the name Kingdom Conquest. Well, it turns out that Kingdom Conquest is SEGA’s first iPhone MMO and freenium game. A freenium game means that the app is free, but you have to pay for in game items and content. Kingdom Conquest is part hack n’ slash and part city building according to SEGA.

The second new announcement is Chu Chu Rocket. Chu Chu Rocket will be SEGA’s first iOS game to support Apple’s Game Center.

Among other new iPhone game announcements is Altered Beast and Gunstar Heroes. SEGA also hinted at more announcments coming later today on twitter.

[Update] SEGA just updated their twitter with new info. Chu Chu Rocket has all of the DC levels, multiplayer for up to 4 devices via Bluetooth/WiFi, and the iPad version will have 4 player multiplayer on same device.

“It’s a 1986, don’t hate.”

Nothing really big, just two items confirmed if you happen to be a European PS3 owner, since it was revealed via the European Playstation blog. Death Egg Zone seems like a track and character… lets hope it makes it to the American update.

Also, there is now price drops on both Outrun Arcade Online (£7.99/€9.99 now – £5.25/€6.59) and Gunstar Heroes (£3.99/€4.99 now – £2.39/€2.99). If you don’t own them, maybe its time to pick them up.
