Virtua Fighter’s Akira Yuki Playable in Dead or Alive 5

Akira Yuki of Virtua Fighter has been announced to be a guest character in Dead or Alive 5. Could this be an early sign of Virtua Fighter X DOA? Akira’s addition marks the first time that the Dead or Alive franchise has added a character from another fighting game to their roster. studio head of Team NINJA Yosuke Hayashi said, “Gamers will have an opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable battle with an esteemed competitor in Akira Yuki set in the Dead or Alive environment. This year will prove to be an amazing one for our loyal fighting fans as we are delivering a fantastic fighting game that can only been experienced in Dead or Alive 5.”

This SEGA fanboy says: Hayashi failed to note that an even more fantastic fighting game known as Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown is set for release this year.

Expect DOA5 to release this year to the XBOX 360 and Playstation 3. Once you buy VF5: Final Showdown, you are allowed to purchase DOA5.

This is horrible. And that’s all i have to say, i don’t wanna start a discussion with anyone.

    • Haha! Why don’t you want to start a discussion? Explain why you think it’s horrible?

I could understand VF fans thinking this will dumb down VF’s gameplay, I consider DOA to be inferior.

Until I play it myself, I’m not judging either way.

    • Betablocker says:

      I agree with Mr. Portugese!

      It isn’t worth discussing.

    • SEGA_Portuguese says:

I don’t hate DOA. Actually, i respect the creator, Itagaki, a lot, because he always tried to help SEGA with this games.

But really, DOA is DOA and VF is VF. I don’t wanna those games together. Really, VF is a serious FG. DOA is a game where the girls was pole dancers once.

Also, does Suzuki knows about this? He always said that he hates crossovers. Doesn’t matter if he is not a SEGA employer anymore, he is the creator of the series. I don’t know if he is okay with that.

I’m sorry for my last message, i’m angry now so i put my heart on the message.

Ah, and Barry, when i said “discussion”, i was talking about “fight”, i thought that the DOA fans was gonna jump in my neck because of my post. Its not that i don’t wanna hear other people opinions, is just that i don’t wanna start a war with anyone. Thats why i said that. I’m not a english speaker, so a lot of times i change the words, perhaps i should use the word ‘argument’ instead of “discussion”.

    • Randroid says:

I can understand why this would bother you. But a VF character in DOA5 is better than a DOA character in VF6.

      That would be unacceptable.

    • Betablocker says:

As much as I wanted to avoid this we are going in this discussion.

DOA is little more than a perverted clone of VF and this is obvious. I’ve only played DOA2 on Dreamcast but I swear they had copied so much of Sarah Byrant’s move set for the main girl.

The jugability seems good. And that’s almost the most important dude.

As a fan of both series, I would welcome a crossover game. Something to hold us over between vf5:FS and a proper new VF game.

Every other fighting game franchise has done it, and it only serves to further expose both franchises involved.

There can be some interesting rivalries here: Jan Lee vs Jacky, Kage vs Ryu, Pai vs Lei.

Also, there is some compatibility here. I think the first DOA used the VF engine, no?

    • Randroid says:

Oh how could I forget this: BRAD vs ZACK!

That match alone makes a crossover worth it.

    • segaismysavior says:

I’m not sure if it used the same engine, but DoA1 was the only 3rd party game “allowed” to license the Model 2 arcade hardware.

I’m personally a fan of both series, but I do own more DoA games than I do VF. That’s more SEGA’s fault though for holding 2 games exclusive to PS2.

I do my best to ignore fighting games now though, but the newer VF 5 release will be an exception.

    More news on this:

Apparently Sega will be publishing this game.

  5. Brian says:

I am all for this, I love both series for different reasons and they really aren’t all that dissimilar from each other as far as basic mechanics go. I would love for these two worlds to collide in a full on cross over.

  6. CrazyTails says:

wow dead or alive 5 certainly looks beautiful

    Awesome news

  7. Chaosmaster8753 says:

Don’t Virtua Fighter and Dead or Alive have similar buttons for their fighting systems? I could see why they would want do a crossover with those series partially because of that.

  8. STORM! says:

I could be wrong, but I have seen somewhere that Akira is PS3 version exclusive character.

About the news; I’m loving it!! I love DOA!! The graphics are looking amazing!!!

1-This is perfect, when beauty meets the most techincal one out there, hope DOA has become deeper and more balanced, AM2 doesn’t simply
give a way their gems, at the end of the day,
SEGA has not payed enough respect to VF series,
(No VF at EVO or…) during last years *especially in west, up until recently they did a South town arcade event (I was there) and Finalround, so, its great to see that “Tecmo” helping VF, as well
as getting the other VF fans, (even Tekken fans) interested in DOA5.

2-Why it doesn’t say Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown at the end? (just VF5?)… also where is SEGA’s big blue logo? or better, SEGA-AM2

3-Akira is Bajiquan user, he is perfect, not only him, but all VF character can live in DOA world (not in Mortal Kombat world, lol) visually, artistically, its working, game design wise they need to work hard to have a perefect mechanics, it’s VF after all, deepest fighter yet.

4-Hayashi san, says “for our loyal fighting fans”,he did not mean this year is ours and he has not forget that this year we have lots of great fighters, he is basically targeting the DOA audience in that statement but in a smart way.

5-Has Yu Suzuki or Itagaki seen this yet?
(I like to hear their reaction)

6-I was waiting for VF X Tekken, anyway …

7-Now SEGA VF X DOA, bring it up AM2 😀

  10. Gary says:

This is mutually beneficial to both franchises, as it gives them both greater visibility. Let’s face it, Virtua Fighter has faded into obscurity in recent years and is almost dead in the West.
IMHO Tecmo have done more to promote Virtua Fighter than Sega has. This is that rare thing; Sega doing something smart. Revealing Akira in Kasumi’s reveal was pretty generous on Team Ninja’s part, given Kasumi is the DOA icon.

I note that Sega is publishing the game; heaven forbid Sega actually be involved in making games. That’s the real reason there’s no need for the fanboys to worry about DOA Vs VF; Sega just publishes stuff these days and a crossover game would actually involve Sega…(gasp)making something.

As for Itagaki, his departure IMHO has saved DOA from stagnation, after the dreary DOA4; at long last the ancient character models have been updated and actually look like people rather than plastic dolls.
The whole pervy boobs thing was Itagaki’s doing, with him gone, Hayashi is focusing on what Itagaki should have been focusing on; the game.
FFS Itagaki kept re-using the Naomi/DC character models, he would have likely kept that stuff going.

Itagaki will be annoyed, but Suzuki will probably be cool with it. Suzuki likely cares little for Sega anyhow.

The only reason we are getting VF5:FS is because of Capcom reviving the fighting genre. Sega these days follows Capcom and EA.

    • SEGA_Portuguese says:

SEGA did all the Yakuza series, SEGA did Valkyria Chronicles, AM2 is doing the Hatsune Miku game for 3ds, a lot of games for arcades, Sonic games…Nagoshi, Sakai, Kodama, Iizuka, all creators from SEGA…so i’m sorry, but no, SEGA is not only publishing games.
