Sonic the Hedgehog 4 movie title revealed to be… Sonic the Hedgehog 4! Jim Carrey is back!

Paramount has posted a new teaser trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and while it is no surprise that Amy Rose and Metal Sonic will be in the film, we do get confirmation that Jim Carrey will return as Doctor Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik and James Marsden and Tika Sumpter will return as the Wachowskis. The teaser also puts to rest any speculation that they would retitle the movie to Sonic CD (yes, that was a real rumor).

Jim Carrey narrates as Robotnik, saying “you think your world is safe, but your time is about to run out. The chaos has only just begun.” Of course, with Amy Rose and Metal Sonic involved, there will be time travel. Also, leaked Sonic 3 movie development materials hinted at a cut time travel subplot in which Gerald gifts Ivo his watch and in his final moments, Robotnik sees the watch move backwards and sees past events swirl around him. Also, we had leaked concept art of a bad future in which an Emporer Eggman is ruling alongside Metal Sonic. The title Sonic 4 is also, of course, shared with the 2010 2D platformer which also saw the return of Metal Sonic. So despite not being titled Sonic CD (which is a silly name for a movie), the title does still fit due to Metal appearing in the Sonic 4 game.

Variety is also reporting on what they call the “full cast”, though there might still be some surprises. The cast list is: Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Kristen Bell, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Lee Majdoub, Nick Offerman and Richard Ayoade.

Sonic 4 will be released in theaters on March 19, 2027.
