DevStash x Sega Retro present Microwave Megaweek is a 5-day prototype and development material release event happening now on Sega Retro’s forums. Earlier this year, interviewer Ashley Rojas – representing her newly-founded game preservation nonprofit DevStash Inc. – visited former Sega of America audio director David Javelosa to preserve as much of the musician’s game industry work as possible. From never-before-seen internal documentation to long-sought prototypes, Microwave Megaweek serves as a physical representation of both David’s career and Sega of America’s audio history.
Day 1 begins off with Documents, Soundtracks, Videos, and Interviews. Highlights include GEMS documentation from David’s own reference materials, Nintendo 64 audio development guides, and development documents spanning games like Jurassic Park and RoboCop Versus The Terminator. On the audio side are several unreleased soundtracks, among them David’s music for InScape’s unreleased Tales from the Crypt, plus a set of promotional VHS tapes from his later teaching career. Rounding out the day are two new interviews conducted during Ashley’s visits, including anecdotes about Michael Jackson’s involvement in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the localization of Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, and a hilarious story about Joe Montana’s NFL Football destroying early Sega CD drives.
