MICROWAVE MEGAWEEK DAY 2: Internal Sega Genesis prototypes

DevStash x Sega Retro present Microwave Megaweek is a 5-day prototype and development material release event happening now on Sega Retro’s forums. Earlier this year, interviewer Ashley Rojas – representing her newly-founded game preservation nonprofit DevStash Inc. – visited former Sega of America audio director David Javelosa to preserve as much of the musician’s game industry work as possible. From never-before-seen internal documentation to long-sought prototypes, Microwave Megaweek serves as a physical representation of both David’s career and Sega of America’s audio history.

Day 2 is all dedicated to the Sega Genesis, with a batch of prototype cartridges from David Javelosa’s time composing for the platform, ranging from internal production software to early versions of released games. Highlights include a physical cartridge dump of David’s personal GEMS 2.5 hardware, a localization prototype of Sunsoft’s Batman and a prototype of Novotrade’s Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Crossroads of Time dated four months before the final build. Keep an eye on the event – there are more Genesis prototypes to come. And tomorrow is when things get exciting.

Head over to the thread to dig into everything, and check back tomorrow for Day 3.
