Sonic! He can really move….pre-orders that is. Sega has announced today that Sonic Generations has topped all previous Sonic pre-orders to date. Possibly part of the reason for this has been their huge push of this title.

SEGA is proud to announce that Sonic Generations has exceeded all previous pre-order records from the 20 year Sonic catalog.  This has made Sonic Generations the most anticipated title in the Sonic the Hedgehog’s iconic history.    SEGA has also invested in a number of high-profile brand initiatives surround the anniversary and the games launch.

I would be one of those.

  2. I’d credit the Casino Night pre-order DLC, thats why I pre-ordered. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have, I would just drive around Tuesday night looking for a copy.

  3. teirusu says:

o yea good news for sega bad news for mario 😛

  4. SMT_Xero says:

@barry def because of the pre-order bonus. no other sonic game had one. (i think colours did but gamestop/ebgames ripped people off and some stores didnt get them.)

  5. CosmicCastaway says:

Yeah, Sonic Colors had the “Sonic Hat” for the Game Stop preorders. I’m curious to see if the Casino Night stage is a full act or more of a bonus level.

  6. Aki-at says:

I do not think it has anything to do with a pre-order bonus, what is it? Nothing major at all.

I think it has more to do with the fact it seems for all intent and purposes, a legitimately good Sonic game, backed up with solid marketing, plus the nostalgia, has all combined to make it so.

Of course, I would be more interested where it appears in charts and hard numbers, for the most part, Sonic has failed to live it up on the HD consoles because of quality issues so it will be interesting to see how this one does.

  7. Well, as far as we know the pre-order content won’t be up for regular download for a while or ever, so thats why I pre-ordered. So I’d say it had something to do with it, though I’m not saying it had everything to do with it.

I wonder how Europe pre-orders are going. That Collector’s Edition is selling out all over the place, surely the numbers are pretty high.

  8. SMT_Xero says:

i forgot all about the collectors edition. im sure that must have helped out alot in europe.
As for what the DLC is, its a pinball level in the likes of casino night zone, a theme for your console, and im not sure if its still in but i remember there being talk of a super sonic outfit for your xbox live avatar.
tho everyone that i know who i going to buy it pre-ordered for the DLC(no matter how small it is)

  9. DCGX says:

    @ Barry, SMT

That’s why I preordered as well. Plus, who doesn’t want to dress their avatar up as Super Sonic?

I think the Casino Night DLC that is the preorder bonus is just the pinball mini-game, I don’t think it’s a full platforming stage.

  10. Lucas says:

    Sega.
Focus in Classic Sonic and you win instant money.
    That is not hard.

  11. Body PRESS says:

From a creative standpoint, I actually find it depressing that the least-fresh or original Sonic game is going to be getting the most sales. Results like these only encourage video game companies to take even less risks on trying new ideas (whether they be in a gameplay sense or otherwise).

Some of these Sonic fans, I swear… their ideal direction for the franchise would be for SEGA to just make ROM hacks of the old Genesis games forever. There would be absolutely no changes allowed to either the physics or the core gameplay whatsoever; all SEGA would ever be doing is making new tilesets and levels for the same old shit. That’s a bunch of crap, to me. =|

I really do hope that SEGA stops pandering to them.

  12. Arc Christelle says:

Wow Body PRESS…. I must say… I agree with you. I’ve must’ve stepped in the twilight zone.

  13. Arc Christelle says:

Matter in fact I have a feeling if SEGA focus only on Classic Sonic, those very so called fans would eventually question what the hell did they like about Sonic to begin with or continue to believe that the formula wasn’t right.

Some things like Duke Nukem, should stay in the 90s.

  14. nuckles87 says:

Sonic’s BEEN creative for a decade now, and all it’s done is gotten the franchise in trouble.

Creativity and innovation isn’t always a good thing. In Sonic’s case, it’s resulted in some terrible games and the near destruction of the franchise.

Sonic NEEDED a back to basics game to restore some credibility to the franchise and please the fans who’ve been wanting such a game for years now.

Now that Sonic’s had Generations, maybe he can start to innovate again. But the innovation is going to be more deliberate, not doing it for innovation’s sake.

  15. Arc Christelle says:

There’s a difference between innovation and poor execution.

  16. Jonboy101 says:

The werehog, shadow having guns and a furry plot are bad innovations no matter how well Sega could have pulled it off.

  17. Arc Christelle says:

If it’s done well, It can’t be bad. I didn’t create Sonic, so I have no problem with the ideas they try to implement, and all of those were acceptable, whether fans liked it or not.

The Werehog- Once you start getting into the combat system, it has its moments surprisingly. It’s not the most choice idea, but it wasn’t executed terribly.

Shadow’s use of guns and vehicles. – First and foremost, even without these things, Shadow the Hedgehog would still have been a terrible game (gameplay wise.) And I’m a Shadow fan. Shadow The Hedgehog was basically Sonic Heroes stripped down. There could have been more ideas to make the use of weaponry actually fun, (thank god they’ve started to implement lock-on).

And as for the beastiality… Fuck you that shit was hot son. lmao I make jokes about it all the time but knowing that my childhood hero can even pull human girls gives him so much points to me. The shit I do dislike about that idea is Sonic settling down. He’s a beast, he can’t be held down. And still I’d like to see Sonic bump into Elise again in another game, it’d be like the perfect F-U to all of the haters, especially if it turns out to be a great game.

The point I’m making is anything is possible, and I’d piss on my fans, before I’d let them tell me how to make my shit (especially if their arguments are about minor things and we all know a lot of Sonic fans make major rants out of the most minimal issue, it’s embarrassing because I love Sonic). You can say you’ll take your money elsewhere, but kids still play Super Fail Fighter IV like you still play Sonic.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t ask for the same game or gameplay. I just want it to be good and fun and to end my long rant I have this to say:

Sonic 3D Blast > Sonic CD.
    Damn right I said it.

  18. Body PRESS says:

“A furry plot”? Excuse me, but you do realize that all of the Sonic games involve furries and thus furry plots, right? >_> He is called “Sonic the HEDGEHOG”, after all.

In fact, you could almost think of these games as showing the furries’ superiority over human beings, as mankind’s greatest scientific genius always gets trumped by furries that sometimes use nothing but their natural (or supernatural) abilities to overcome all of his technological advances. Also, the fact that there’s a fox boy with around twice or more the IQ points as the world’s smartest human makes it even furthermore indicative that the humans are inferior creatures.

So in the Sonic universe, Furries > Humans.

  19. Arc Christelle says:

Body PRESS you never cease to amaze me.
    -claps-

Until the discussion of Sonic X Tails or Fanfiction is brought up. Then it just goes downhill as my mind is invaded with the most God awful imagery… Speaking of that. Furries > Humans

unless we’re speaking about Sonic’s taste in women then it’s

    Humans > Furries.

    lol

  20. Body PRESS says:

As I always say, remember – Elise kissed Sonic, but Sonic did not kiss Elise. Plus she kissed him while he was dead, no less, so that’s sort of like necrophiliac date rape right there. >_> Thank goodness they hit the reset button and it never happened.

I only mention Sonic x Tails so much because it is the very best pairing of the entire series, and so logical to boot! ^__^

  21. Arc Christelle says:

lmao, remember that Sonic could choose Elise! (which I did) And Tails wasn’t even an option!
