Platinum Games now developing Metal Gear Rising, gets name change

It has been known for awhile that Hideo Kojima has been looking for a new director (and now it seems they are going with a new team) to develop Metal Gear Rising. I guess Bayonetta developer Platinum Games impressed the Konami, they are now going to develop Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Which actually got a new name, now the game is called Metal Gear  Rising: Revengeance.

The news and new trailer was leaked out by trusty members over at NeoGAF. The trailer is being pulled off of streaming sites. Don’t worry, two download mirrors here:

Since this game is not SEGA published or developed, this is the only post we will do on it. Platinum Games is an independent company and we will continue our coverage on their games published by SEGA.

      1. Because Platinum Games have only had/working on 4 games before this announcement and all those games where by SEGA. Platinum Games have been talked about here since the site launched.
      2. Yeah, it isn’t SEGA news. You are right. That is why I posted it under NEWS and not SEGA News. There is a difference.
      3. If you read the last part of the post, I clearly stated that this is the only post about Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance. I posted about Yuji Naka’s Prope studios new game and no one cared… even though Prope hasn’t worked with SEGA in a long time.

I like to do at least one post, just so SEGA fans know what the teams are up to outside of SEGA. I also did a post on Child of Eden. I don’t think one post hurts the site. You can always skip it.

It’s SEGA news since now we know P+ is not developing exclusively for SEGA. It was a good story, George, and I don’t even care about the game.

  3. CrazyTails says:

Aww it sucks that platinum games doesn’t develop for sega only. Ever since their existance they had, so I kind of gotten used to the idea of platinum games being part of SEGA. I have much respect for the company but this kind of feels like a slap in the face at first. I guess that’s just how it is

  4. Natsume says:

shame, shame, shame, sega should acquired platinium game a long time ago, excellent trailer, those guys know how to make a game, by the way, we really did feel the bayonetta engine in the gameplay sequences.

  5. Barry the Nomad says:

I don’t get the anger that this announcement is receiving. We all knew that PG was on a contract to make X amount of games for SEGA and that the contract never stipulated that they be exclusive to SEGA. Also, it’s another PG release! Why not be happy with it? As for it being announced on SEGAbits, as with past games like this its a one time sort of announcement. Don’t worry 🙂

    FUCK SAKE!

    I want Bayonetta 2…

  7. -nSega54- says:

It definitely looks better than that very overrated Bayonetta game they made a couple years ago.

Anyway, this is probably why Anarchy Reigns looks so soulless, lol. Well, good for them. I just hope they continue their partnership with Sega as well.

“i have a question why you put this this call segabits why you put this non sega news i dont care about the stupid metal gear solid ”

lol so just scroll down, man. It’s 1 news post.

The title’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, just to let you know.

what! this game looks awful compared to Bayonetta 2.
this trailer was the most disappointed trailer of the year for me… i was really excited for the original ver and look at what happened! this game is nothing like MGS and in the other hand it’s nothing like Bayonetta (quality wise)…. damn you Kojima!

  10. Sharky says:

“It definitely looks better than that very overrated Bayonetta game they made a couple years ago. ”

Seeing the world through your eyes must be like being underwater.

The gameplay here looks… Nothing special at all, it has none of the fluidity and has displayed none of the combat depth of Bayonetta so far.

At best it looks a bit like that new Ninja Gaiden on the Vanquish engine.

    • George says:

That is pretty ignorant, we basically say like 20 seconds of gameplay footage and you have decided it doesn’t match Bayonetta in quality? That is as as bad as Cube judging the game from one 1 minute none gameplay cgi film.

All we saw was some fighting that wasn’t bad looking and the slicing feature that looks impressive (tech wise no one has done that in a game yet).

To say its ‘like Ninja Gaiden mixed with Vanquish’ is rushing opinions. Why don’t you actually wait to get gameplay walkthroughs and more detailed information instead of a really short reveal?

    • Sharky says:

I’m judging the game by what I’ve been given to judge with…

If it looks better in later videos I’ll be sure to take note!

Exactly, not to mention that everything in this trailer was out of style…. Kojima just ruined the whole thing.

  12. CrazyTails says:

I think nSEGA just couldn’t handle it

  13. -nSega54- says:

^What, Bayonetta? Meh. Vanquish is definitely my favorite game from Platinum. I really don’t get what people saw in Bayonetta.

Anyway, this is clearly not supposed to be like MGS; it’s a spinoff and a clear attempt to branch the series out; even the trailer for the previous version of the game made it look more like an action game than a stealth game. This is just a more confident step in that direction.

  14. CrazyTails says:

I would think that is the case because the game requires alot of skill and responsiveness. It’s not your typical go through without getting killed kinda game. Lol.. but then again vanquish is that as well.

    Have you finished bayonetta?

  15. -nSega54- says:

To be fair I haven’t finished Bayonetta. I just wasn’t thrilled with either its main character (who annoyed me) its storyline, its atmosphere, its load times, and its combat system just didn’t feel as fun for me as everyone said it would be.

I was just messing with Sharky though, lol. I didn’t mean to de-rail the discussion. I do really think Vanquish was underrated and a brilliant game.

  16. CrazyTails says:

That sounds like the ps3 version though o:

  17. -nSega54- says:

Nah the load times annoyed me on the 360 version, I don’t even want to think of how I’d feel playing it on PS3.

I have a pet peeve in video games; when an action game has to go through a load screen of more than like, 5 seconds when I die, I always tend to become frustrated with the game and lose interest. It was a problem for me with Deus Ex, too. I dunno what it is.

  18. Shigs says:

Wow! I’m actually interested in a Metal Gear game now. I gotta say though, even if Platinum was not the developer, I’d say it looks like a Platinum game. All the fast paced action and sparks flying everywhere.

  19. -nSega54- says:

    @ sharky;

yeah, yeah, lol. That’s easier said than done with a combat system that imo just tries to do too much.
