Project X Zone gets more characters and is being developed by Xenoblade Chronicles developers

Famitsu has announced lots of new details for the upcoming 3DS crossover video game called Project X Zone. Project X Zone will include characters from Capcom, Namco, and your favorite publisher, SEGA, in a tactical RPG game. The developer for the title has been announced as non other than Monolith Software. At first you will be excited since they created the Xenosaga franchise and the new(ish) Wii RPG Xenoblade Chronicles, but they also developed Namco x Capcom on the PS2; which wasn’t that great of a game.

Hit the jump to see new gameplay details, Famtisu scans and a full list of confirmed characters!

The game will have support attacks that are special attacks that from your party members. The game will also use grid spaces to be more tactic based. Think Shining Force series. If another unit is 8 spaces from your unit you will be able to trigger a support attack. This support attack is only used once in a battle, make it count!

The other new attack they detailed is Cross Hit which is related to Support Attacks. While performing a Support Attack, if the main unit and support unit both strike the enemy you will trigger a Cross Hit. The enemy will freeze and you’ll be able to perform varies combos while their stunned. Sexy.

Critical Hits will be performed in this title by first hitting the enemy into the air, while they are in the air if you hit them again before they touch the ground you will perform a Critical Hit. Critical Hits allow you to take more damage than you normally would. Also confirmed, each character will have (up to 3) unique skills. Battles in the game have been confirmed to be fully voiced, but we don’t know if SEGA actors will return to reprise roles.

Xenoblade Chronicles was a truly great RPG, so that is a bit of a promising sign, though yeah, as George pointed out, Monolith also has a bit of a mixed record, from games like Disaster: Day of Crisis to the original Namco X Capcom.

And it’s pretty unlikely that Xenoblade/Xenosaga’s Tetsuya Takahashi is involved with this, but we’ll see.

This could do with sonic to make it more interesting.

  3. Dave says:

Btw you are missing Cyrile from Shining Force EXA. She is standing between Toma (that’s its US spelling) and Ulala. Yes, I like and play the modern Shining games 😀

This game looks awesome, I really hope NISA or XSEED pick this one up… really badly lol

I’m glad there is so much Sega RPG representation in this game. Kind of suprising there is no representation from Phantasy Star and Skies of Arcadia though.

Wasn’t it originally said that Banpresto was developing it?

    • Dave says:

From that picture they still are. It has the Banpresto mask logo right above the Namco Bandai logo. Banpresto may be co-developing it with Monolith Soft as they did with the Ar Tonelico series with Gust. BTW Monolith Soft used to be under Namco Bandai until they sold their shares to Nintendo a few years ago so they probably still have close connections.

hahaha I love the Dynamite Cop screens at the bottom of the 2nd page. Never thought I’d see them reference that game.

Bruno vs. Erica and Gemini. Oh snap! If only Sonic and G were in this.

  7. Radrappy says:

it’s hard to explain but the sega side feels a little. . .misrepresented. I think it’s because slots have been taken up by games that were never very popular or iconic (EXA, Resonance of Fate). Even Pai and Akira feel slightly off wearing their anime outfits.

  8. STORM! says:

You are missin the robot from Alien Storm, I cant remember his name.

But, Opaopa, Harrier and him are just the attack that Ulala uses on the enemies. They dont have a role on the story (till now).

I’m kind of certain that I am going to like this game. But I am dissapointed with the character picks from SEGA’s side. Seems that SEGA has a whole different croud over at japan but I wouldnt see something wrong with some more iconic characters/games.

  10. SkyBlue says:

I, for one am happy to see the line up of lesser popular characters. Having Sonic in every SEGA game would be tiring for even SEGA fans.

Although I liked that they used Kurt and Reila in the game, they should of used Welkin and Alicia.

And….no Vash? We need a pervert in this game!

Wow, I never expected to see Sakura Wars Characters in this. I’m a big fan of the Wii game, I’m so glad this seires will get to see some love again. Well instead of Sonic in this. How about Shadow the Hedgehog instead. I say that because I just want to have a fight with him and Donte from DMC. It’s a fight I keep creaming of
