Platinum Games announces a new game at E3, published by Nintendo

Above is the trailer for the new Platinum Games title P-100 (working title), this new game will be published by Nintendo. So why am I posting this here? I think this proves that Platinum Games is basically stepping away from SEGA as a publisher. If you didn’t know, Platinum Games only had a 3 game contract with SEGA. After they finished they still wanted to work with SEGA, but seeing as how SEGA West screwed up their Anarchy Reigns release schedule, that seems a bit hard to do now.

The trailer for the new title is up above, it has a very odd art style from Platinum Games, especially keeping in mind that it’s directed by Hideki Kamiya, who headed Bayonetta, but it seems rather fun. I hope for Nintendo’s sake this is a downloadable title, because I doubt many will pay full retail price for this game. When Platinum Games started they talked about how they wanted to do their own IP and type games. Seems that this new title and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance prove that even artist have to eat.

What do you guys think about the situation, do you guys think Platinum Games is ready to move on?

  1. Still want Bayonetta 2, and SEGA owns the rights, right?

I think it looks darn fun.

I don’t know what that is, but I think I want it.

Also, at 0:38-0:42 you hear Child Link’s voice whenever that swarm recruits people to the group.

This is from Hideki Kamiya according to Spike TV’s interview with Inaba. Added to the post.

Love it. It looks great although a bit close to pikmin.

  6. Randroid says:

Looks pretty much what I would imagine a partnership between Platinum and Nintendo to look like.

Will probably be fun and polished, but devoid of any ‘edge’.

Considering that 3 out of the 4 games Sega has released so far have sold fairly poorly, I think it’s far more likely that Sega has been distancing themselves from Platinum, not the other way around. Having said that, I do think all this panic about whether or not Anarchy Reigns is going to get released will turn out to be much ado about nothing… it will be released, but unfortunately it probably isn’t going to set the sales charts on fire. I love PG, but they don’t make inexpensive games and Sega’s given them 5 chances. It seems unrealistic to expect Sega to try and get some exclusivity with them. But perhaps they’ll work together again in the future.

SEGA should have bought Platinum Games when they had the chance, like they did with Creative Assembly and Secret Level and numerous other groups, they’re a quality team and have yet to realise one shit game.

Wii U retail games are also going to be downloadable at launch. Unfortunately it might not be priced much lower than retail, but I believe retailers are in charge of pricing digital games. But we’ll have to see.

To hell with the Wii U,

  11. Hitrax says:

I thought it was a 4 title release deal they had, with Platinum saying last year that they were in talks with SEGA to ask for an extension and possibly double the deal to 8 new titles.

    SEGA *$*(ed it up

    • Aki-at says:

Cannot say they have with the exception of Bayonetta, PG has done too much to allow SEGA to keep them. And outside of Bayonetta, I am not sure Vanquish, MadWorld (Which had a lot of hype on the internet) and Infinite Space would have sold even with a lot of marketing.

And considering EA failed with titles like Shadow of the Damned, I’m not too sure that a big publisher would have luck.

  13. Exu says:

Wow, that er… that looks awful. I mean really truly awful.

  14. Sharky says:

This is not Bayonetta 2… I’m at risk of breaking sweat.

  15. Radik says:

Platinum Games has to move on, unfortunately. I’m not saying other publishers will give them as much freedom, but Sega’s marketing just hasn’t been good enough.
