Sega’s Newest IP, Jack Lumber chops it’s way onto iOS

Many folks around Gamescom were lumbering around Sega’s booth and finally axed them. “What’s this new IP you’ve been barking about”? Well, they finally couldn’t leaf it be any longer. Sega has branched out again to smaller developers. This time, to publish “Jack Lumber”. OWLchemy Lab’s latest hoot of a game. The game itself seems to be a mix of Fruit Ninja and Flight Control. You may have logged some time into this title earlier this year at PAX East. The game is available now on iTunes at 99 cents for a limited time. That’s a small amount of green! I’m so excited, I’m sporting wood! Read on for 12 minutes of gameplay video and official description.

A LUMBERJACK WITH AN AXE TO GRIND
A tree killed his granny and now he is out for revenge. Meet Jack Lumber, the superhuman lumberjack who hates trees, loves animals, and hates trees. Did we say that twice? The guy really hates trees.

Hike the trails of Flapjack Forest, trudge through The Loggers Bog, and ascend Widowmaker’s Peak chopping down every pine, oak, and maple that stands between you and the tree that killed your sweet old granny.

SHOW ‘EM WHO’S BOSS
With one mighty swing of his axe, Jack Lumber sends logs, syrup j**s, explosives, and forest critters flying into the air.

Use magic powers to enter LumberTime. With the logs suspended in slow motion, draw a smooth path for Jack’s axe following the grain of every treacherous log.
Poke at the adorable forest animals living rent-free in your cabin after you’ve destroyed their homes

– Intensify the gameplay by equipping challenging new beards
– Spruce up the old cabin with tasteful lumber-decor!
– Turn the forest into sawdust with the finesse and grace that only a burly lumberjack can possess. But be careful not to harm your furry friends.

Every level requires timing, skill, logic, and flannel to solve. (Flannel wear not actually required) Unlockable missions, player driven challenges, and inventive power-up combos make it exciting to play this game again and again.

BTW, is this the first time the SEEEGAAA! Logo theme has been used outside of a Sonic game?

Also, what exactly is Sega Alliance? I could not find any info on that. I’m guessing an alliance with smaller studios like this one and Akedo.

  2. Radrappy says:

the. . .the creators of snuggletrucks? *sobs*

  3. Downloaded it, playing it, it’s a lot of fun! Sure its Fruit Ninja inspired, but it is not a clone. It has a cool art style, humor and the gameplay is different enough to be unique. TBH, I like it more than Fruit Ninja.

  4. Wonder if SEGA Alliance is the name for stuff like Hell Yeah and this where it really is a product of the third party dev and not SEGA, but they teamed with SEGA to release it? If so, this would make the distinction between characters like Sonic and Ash from Hell Yeah, which would help in silly forum arguments.

Well 99 cents is really nothing so i’ll buy and support this. Seems like a good mobile game for whenever ill have to wait for something, somewhere.

  6. Beat says:

well thats freaking lame….Not the game, the fact that I need the newest iPhone/iPod/iPad/iShit to play it. The game looks pretty fun. Guess I cant support it then.
