Shinji Mikami agrees: Aladdin on the Genesis is better than SNES

dealwithit
When I was a kid there was much debate between my friends on which version of Aladdin was better, the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive version by SEGA or the SNES version by Capcom. Its hard to pick, considering I was gifted the SNES one as a child while my cousin got it on the SEGA Genesis. I have played it growing up on both consoles and I will state that the SEGA Genesis version is superior. What about Shinji Mikami  (Resident Evil, Vanquish), he worked on the game, does he agree? I guess so.

“If I didn’t actually make [the SNES game], I would probably buy the Genesis one. Animation-wise, I think the Genesis version’s better. The Genesis version had a sword, actually. I wanted to have a sword.” – Shinji Mikami tells Polygon

So, what about you SEGA gamers? Which one is your favorite version of Aladdin?

Heh. Is there anything to say other than a childish rant about how Nintendo was for pussies? I think not. Sega does what Nintendon’t bitches.

George left out the part where David Perry designer of the Genesis version said the Snes version was better.

He also added that the animations were done by Disney where as Capcom did their own.

I have played both games and I enjoy both of them. The free running gameplay of the Snes is certainly more enjoyable, where as the Graphics of the Genesis are undeniably better.

Too bad the Genesis game is actually stupidly unfair after 1/3 of the game is done. Can’t help but feel that its a matter of an artist being harsh on his own work, because I prefer the Super NES game over the Genesis game.

Definitely the MD version, and also just by pure preference of graphic style.

Saying that the Genesis version is cheating because Disney’s animators were involved is misleading; this was Virgin we’re talking about; every Genesis game they ever made had amazing animation, thanks in no small part to people like Mike Dietz, Nick Bruty, Paul Schmiedeke, Doug TenNapel, and Andy Lucky. That’s like dismissing WayForward’s Ducktales HD because Disney animators were involved; obviously it also has a lot to do with the already amazing in-house animators.
