SEGA announces F2P RPG ‘The World End Eclipse’ made by the Valkyria Chronicles team

Famitsu reveals that SEGA has a new free-to-play ‘online theater RPG’ video game as they describe it. It will be launched this winter in Japan on the Playstation Vita, mobile and PC. Save data is said to carry over to all three platforms, online servers are also shared meaning cross-platform online play is a possibility.

The game seems to be online only and will have simplified RTS like elements that let you build, explore and fight. Battles are said to be mostly automated with ‘fast-forward and pause buttons’.  I can see this be SEGA’s take on the ever popular Clash of Clans franchise.

So now the main people behind the project are revealed as well:

Producer: Shinji Motoyama (Valkyria Chronicles 2, Nightshade)
Art Director: Daisuke Tabayashi (Valkyria Chronicles, Blood Will Tell)
Main Character Design: Katsumi Enami (Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Ys Seven)
Music Production: Hitoshi Sakimoto (Valkyria Chronicles, Vagrant Story, Radiant Silvergun)

Seeing that its bound to have an epic soundtrack and is free to play, it might be worth downloading just for the soundtrack alone.

    Another Sega game that we will never play

    As much as I’d love to play something else from the VC team, a F2P mobile game is really unlikely to be scratching that particular itch.

    Given the amount of praise the Valkyria Chronicles series has garnered, I genuinely don’t understand how SEGA has so far passed up the opportunity for a quick, cheap re-release collection. With VC 3 never being officially released outside of Japan (and being much, much better than VC 2) the merits of a collection with it included could easily shift more than a few units, even if it was PS3 only.

  3. I still haven’t seen SEGA making a good case for me buying a PS4, Vita or Xbox One. Will this game ever make its way to the West? It feels like these last 2 years are the worst ever for SEGA abandoning the West.

    Well it’s anybody’s guess how cheap a compilation of Valkyria Chronicles would be. While I agree that a compilation at least requires minimal work from creative staff and that VC3’s translation would be a selling point, I don’t know if there are legal issues with reusing the past English voice clips. And personally I would love to see the third game get voiceovers, which aren’t that cheap.

    It’s funny how nowadays you hear about the Valkyria devs not working on Valkyria (this game, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax) and comparisons from other games (Code Name STEAM, Lost Dimension, however true) to Valkyria. Obviously the Sega staff who worked on VC aren’t suddently going to get fired but I demand Valkyria pls ;_;

    Well the Vita is one thing. Phantasy Star Nova seems like a full fledged investment to that system and then there’s also Dengeki Bunko though that’s not strictly Sega. As for next gen, they are going to play that so safe that they develop PS3/PS4 Yakuza and a new Shining RPG for PS3. =P
