SEGA announces acquisition of Technosoft’s IPs

002SEGA has announced that they have acquired Technosoft’s library of video game IPs, which makes sense since they announced earlier today that they will be adding Technosoft’s Thunder Force III to the new SEGA 3D Archives volume. Now we know that the reason for this is the fact that SEGA has acquired Technosoft’s games. But what have they made? Not too much that is overly popular these days, especially in America. I would say Thunder Force is their most well known franchise.

Some of Technosoft’s franchises:

  • Thunder Force (AGAIN!)
  • Herzog Zwei
  • Elemental Master
  • Hyper Reverthion

SEGA did say during the SEGA 3D Archives stage show that they are looking into reprinting Thunder Force IV, V and even Herzog Zwei. So now SEGA adds another lump sum of Japanese IPs to its already full belt line, what do you think of this news?

I expect them to release Hertzog Zwei and Thunder Force games to the Steam emulator thingy and VC.

Thunder force was my favorite shoot-em up series. I like the acquisition.

    I think that is … FABULOUS !!!
Thunder Force is undeniably one of the best shoot-em up franchise.

I think I’m about to buy more 3D Classics (assuming they continue to publish them outside of Japan).

    Dreamcast ports please!

    Hey, I can dream.

Wonderful news! I feared these games had been lost to time. Love TFIII, Elemental Master, even Hyper Duel (I wonder if that’ll ever get ported? Kinda expensive on eBay). Their version of Devil Crush was cool too.

Hell yeah I have Thunder Force 3 on the Genesis, I’m very happy about this. Does technosoft own Double Dragon series? Or could it be another company who made Battle Toads? If thats true that be cool also.

  8. Miguel says:

Never mind technos owns Double Dragon which went bank rupt and sold to million publishing and then sold it to Arc Systems.

I’m thrilled to hear this! Even though they were always multi-platform, the Technosoft library, particularly Thunder Force, always felt like as much a part of Sega’s DNA in the same way as games like Puyo Puyo did. I think they unofficially adopted the series back when they used it as the basis of the climax of Segagaga. Nice to see it become official in writing. I really do miss these old Japanese arcade companies like Technosoft and Compile.

I was pretty stoked to see this news.

I’ve been a fan of Thunder Force for decades, but only recently have developed a habit of putting on Elemental Master’s soundtrack while I work. Great music!

I think it’s a good idea for sega to do that since tecnosoft has been dead for 16 years and that buying the IP so they wouldn’t deal with the licensing thing like they did with thunder force vi. Now, if sega is going to make a new thunder force game, it’s going to be either make thunder force vii( hinted on the ending in thunder force vi) or reboot thunder force vi using the dreamcast’ design from the trailer in 2000. I would also like tsukumo Hyakutaro return to make music for thunder force. But who knows, we’ll have to see and find out.
