First Look Trailer at Panzer Dragoon Voyage Record

A new trailer of the upcoming Panzer Dragoon VR title developed by Wildman was showcased during Summer Gaming Fest.

The trailer details the history of the series during the Sega Saturn era with key visual artwork and how the later two games in the trilogy, Zwei and AZEL (Saga) were not ported to latest consoles due to marketing trends. However with full 360 vision, the trilogy of the series that can be said to be “the most compatible game with VR” will be resurrected as a single omnibus title.

The developer also plans to add more episode via crowdfunding to start this year. Panzer Dragoon Voyage Record is planned for PC, Console, and Standalone VR and set for release in 2021. Follow the official Twitter account for Panzer Dragoon VR for more updates on the game.

Shame that Orta isn’t here, but oh well. The Saturn games were awesome. Hope they continue remaking the other games alongside the VR game. 🙂

That music box at the beginning gave this old man goose bumps

I don’t care about being Orta on this, so long as Saga is, but not sure how that would work in VR as an RPG as it was not on rails, Orta would be good but if it takes up more space that could be used for Saga, the reason why is because Orta wasnt released on Saturn and the only way to access it is via the Xbox but it is backwards compatible and will likely by backwards compatible with the next gen Xbox Series X as well.
So unless you currently have a working Saturn or Sega gets round to bringing out the Saturn mini sometime, PDVR is the only other way to get it.

My understanding is PDVR will be a showcase of particular sections of each game, not a full re-creation of each game. The developer stated that by doing that, he can aim for AAA quality of those particular sections, but to re-create the entirety of each game would exponentially increase the workload making it impossible for a small team.

I thought they were remaking all of them. Zwei is coming out next year, right?

A different developer is doing Panzer Dragoon Zwei Remake, House of the Dead 1&2 Remake. The name of the developer is Forever Entertainment. The developer for Panzer Dragoon V.R. is Wildman.

    • Big Jon says:

SEGA has much more involvement with PDVR and Wildman than it does with Forever Entertainment and the remakes of the 1st and 2nd (Zwei) ones it seems.

    • LenticularLeo says:

Yea I noticed, it won’t be the full game of each, at least not based on the original concept but they’re looking for crowdfunding to add more of each of the Saturn games in PDVR, so maybe it can eventually be most of if not all of the game, I don’t think the first needs as much as it is already being remade and is still getting regular updates, the 2nd one – Zwei will be remade too, there’s no word on Saga being remade or even rereleased yet so far, but based on the success of the recent remake it might happen if the Zwei remake does well enough also, which would be good if PDVR doesn’t get all of it.

Or maybe if Sega bring out the Saturn mini with it built in, that’d be amazing.

I don’t see how they could do Saga except to completely retool it to be a shooter and make the story bits all pre-rendered and staged. Them being episodic would make sense. 1 and Zwei, however, have no reason to not just remake the whole thing; they’re onrail shooters that would make perfect sense to just remake in VR. To make them episodic would just lighten their workload and give them an excuse to monitize individual levels, which isn’t a good idea as far as I’m concerned; I don’t want to play what is essentially a demo portion of an already short game and then pay to play the extra levels that might not ever come anyway if the developer goes out of business or decides it isn’t worth their time. Also, by not having Orta, another rail shooter that would be a whole new experience in VR, I think it’s an excuse to not have visuals at least as good as that game. I want to be wrong. I want to see gameplay and graphics that blow me away, but I don’t expect it at all. I don’t even expect Orta-levels of graphics.
