    Sega and affiliated developers is gonna leave my wallet empty this year. We have Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, Lost Judgment, Alex Kidd DX, The House of the Dead Remake, PSO2 New Genesis, and possibly multiple Sonic games or Collection. Never doubt Sega!

    But another exclusive, and for the platform with the worst online gaming infrastructure connection, and is also a last gen system to boot. Good to see a new VF either way but it’s still not quite enough, not the best start for Sega’s new vision of less exclusives restricted to certain platforms. Hopefully this is just the start and more is yet to be announced at some point.

      Very good point, dude!

      I am also aware that some people prefer the Vanilla Virtua Fighter 5 from 2006 or 2007 (I forgot what year, sorry) over Final Showdown, which is sadly Digital only with the customization options for all the characters being DLC only. 🙁

      At least it’s cool to see Virtua Fighter come back but not like this. I have pretty mixed feelings about this, TBH.

      Like with Final Showdown, Ultimate Showdown will be Digital only, this time for PS4 with no word if it will ever get a physical release via Limited Run Games or whoever (that would be so cool, though). The graphics are also different like with FS but the majority of VF fans prefer Vanilla VF5 even without Taka Arashi, the sumo wrestler.

      Either way I look at it, it’s still VF5 and I still don’t know how much we got to pay in order to play it and hope and pray to god it does NOT have DLC, which I honestly cannot stand. It would’ve been nice if it VF5US also came to PC (without Denuvo), PS5, Xbox One & Xbox Series X/S but that’s just wishful thinking on my part.

      Yes the original Virtua Fighter 5 (2006) release, Final Showdown was basically the type C revision release from the arcades, which was the latest refinement of the core mechanics but it also cut some stuff out like the Quest mode where you could earn more items for each character as you progress, and various other things missing like the music was all changed as well (although you can at least use the background stage BGMs of every characters stage from every installment in the series, a nice touch).

      I have seen some of the screenshots of the new Ultimate Showdown compared to Final Showdown and it might not look much different from Final Showdown but if you look at the still images from the screen shots, it’s almost a next gen difference, I think it’s a missed opportunity limiting it to PS4 though, technically it’s last gen but maybe it’s just a timed exclusive and it still probably made a better business decision in the sense that the PS4 still has a much higher install base than the PS5 which is still too hard to get and still too expensive for many, so they figured with the PS5 being backwards compatible anyway, PS4 owners could still get it while early PS5 adopters would not be restricted from it either. But then making it a PlayStation exclusive is something else, so probably a timed exclusive Sega has worked out with Sony.

      Still, what is known for definite is that it’ll be;

      * Updated next gen visuals.
      * Dragon Engine usage that Sega now uses for the Akuza series.
      * New cinematics.
      * Spectator mode.
      * Online tournaments with 32 player capacity.
      * Full lobby system.
      * Stage redesigns.
      * New stage BGMs.

      It’ll still be equivalent to a next gen remake rather than a next gen remaster.

      Also, Sega will be planning more dormant franchise re-releases as part of the new vision and improved organised management for the foreseeable future as announced recently.
      Just have to wait and see what else, personally I’d love to see something equivalent to another 10th anniversary style edition built in at some point also where all the characters (both old and new) were given the classic Sega Model 1/2 arcade console look and all were brought back into the original classic Virtua Fighter (1993) with all the modern mechanics.

      That reminds, it’ll soon be the 30th anniversary of the series in 2 years time.
