Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (the movie, not the Genesis video game) is less than a month away, and promotion has kicked into high gear with in-person events, weird press kits and soundtrack reveals. In the case of the latter, Paramount has debuted a new song from country music artist Jelly Roll entitled “Run It”. The Song is set to be included on the Sonic 3 movie soundtrack, but whether it is the end credits song has yet to be confirmed. However, given past end credit songs had debuts around this time before their respective movie’s release, it is likely that “Run It” is joining the ranks of “Speed Me Up” and “Stars In The Sky”.
Fan reaction has been split over the song. Some say it doesn’t sound like a Sonic song or that Live and Learn would be a better end credits song. Others note that it’s a big get in terms of musical artist and it is a feel good tune that would fit well with the end credits.
My take? While I am not a huge fan of the country twang and occasional references to “four wheel drive” and line dancing, I can totally see this playing over pixel graphics replaying the events of the film while viewers are either thinking about Shadow’s death or the fact that he is going off on his own adventure. It’s not the ideal end song, if that is what it ends up being, but it is far better than “Speed Me Up” and I can see it being its own little hit just as “Stars In The Sky” was, which I am a huge fan of.
What are your thoughts on the new song? Sound off below!
