It was marvellous to see this finally get a localisation for the Nihongo-impaired of us, but one that always seems to be destined to never get the translation treatment is Segagaga, as this is the new year of 2025, the significance of this is that this is the year Segagaga is based in, and so far this year, already there seems to be quite a bit of news about it this month, Dreamcast Junkyard has already covered it twice and even just done a brand new interview with Tez Okano – the director of Segagaga.
He’s very encouraging and hopeful to see us make an attempt to translate it and even wants to help himself but is currently busy with his company Huga inc and says the rights remain with Sega but is up to working with them and anybody else who will cover it.
So far another proof of concept video has been put up on YouTube by Rengundo for his Segaga encore project which is shaping up to be fairly ambitions, a PC creation via Godot, it even brings QoL features and a full English speaking cast with both English and speech and text. Both of them are quite active on X at the moment also, and have put up screenshots and video links of the project.
SEGAGAGA has a well known reputation of being cursed and ending the attempts of many translators for years, but it all comes down to the unique text width format that SEGAGAGA uses which makes it not possible to just do a straight translation patch.
