You can now save up to 85% on some of the best Total War games, if you are a SEGA fan and haven’t tried the series out, you might want to check out this sale. I recommend trying Total War: Shogun 2 to start off.  I know there have been a few friends that have wanted to try this franchise out and now that the prices on this sale are decent enough, it won’t cost you too much to dip your fingers in.

The best part is that most of the Total War games use Steam and support all the features like cards, achievements and some even support the Workshop.

We are celebrating our 4th anniversary!

segabits4years

Holy Sonic balls, we are now 4 years old. I know that if you have been scrolling through the site lately you probably have noticed that there has been quite a lack of ‘George’ written posts and I’m here to inform you that I have not abandoned the site. If anything, I missed it. It’s just something I have been doing since I first got internet on my Dreamcast back in 1999! It started off with chats on IRC rooms, moved over to forums and eventually ended up blogging! This lead me to wanting to own my own SEGA site, thus here we are at SEGAbits.

Thankfully I have had great people on board here to help me come up with ideas, this site might have been started by me, but decisions are group based. I want to thank the awesome staff we have here, who work very hard on the site and usually have some of the most brilliant ideas. One of the big reasons the site looks so well is because of our web designer Will, who is working on a new look for the site and has been with the site since before it was even launched! I want to thank A.J. for single handily making our YouTube channel relevant, thanks to Nuckles and Shigs for going to events for us and running the Sonic Talk podcast, thanks to Ben for all that work he does behind the scenes with his editing skills and I also want to thank Barry The Nomad who came in and created some great images for the site, while also helping me make the Swingin’ Report Show podcast awesome. One of the biggest help we had on the site last year was our partnership with Sonic Retro/SEGA Retro, so I definitely want to thank those guys. Its been a great partnership!

But mostly I want to thank everyone that reads the site! You guys make our little fun hobby way more enjoyable. What’s 4 more years?

Yakuza Restoration will run at 60fps on Playstation 4

yakuza_ishin_01
This week’s Dengeki Playstation magazine has confirmed that the Playstation 4 version of Yakuza Restoration will run at a smooth 60 FPS.

Other than that the game will also support some special features on the Dualshock 4 controller. You can control the map using the touchpad and the light bar on the controller flashes when taking damage. Not as huge as 60 frames per second, but still nice.

The game supports Remote Play and also has a special streaming feature that shows viewer comments on the screen, sorta how they do it on NicoNico Live. But that isn’t everything, the more comments the quicker your recovery time when you’re down and also the rate your parameters fill up.

Yakuza Restoration is coming to both PS3 and PS4 on February 22nd in Japan. No Western release plans have been announced.

SEGA Amusement to show off Storm Racer G At EAG2014

EAG Expo 2014 is a new trade show that will be held on January 21st to the 23rd in London. SEGA has announced that they will be showing ‘14 exciting new titles plus 11 current hit games‘ at the show. One of those titles? Storm Racer G!

Storm Racer G is not being developed by SEGA, but by a Chinese company known as Wahlap. SEGA will be bringing and representing the game for the Western markets. Developer Wahlap describes the game as:

Storm Racer G is a Classic Arcade Racing Game. The game contains of 12 Tracks with 6 Hidden Tracks; a Total of 14 Cars with 7 Hidden Cars. With full force feedback steering wheel and vibration speakers to simulate car response, it brings you a real racing car driving experience.

The game, if you see the trailer above is looking a bit old school with those graphical effects. Who knows, maybe its a good thing?

Hero Bank cashing in and getting an Anime series

hero1
If you saw previews for SEGA’s 3DS game Hero Bank and thought it looked like a kid anime, guess what? Now it is, Hero Bank will be getting an animated show airing on TV Tokyo starting this April.

If you have been following our Hero Bank updates, you will know the game is about Kaito Gosho, a young kid who discovers that he is one billion yen in debt. So how would he get the money to pay off his debt? He enters the world of ‘Hero Bank’, a speedy high-tech robot battle ring, where everything you do runs on cash. Every time you do an attack you pay, every time you block you pay. You get the idea.

Pre-order Alien: Isolation for PC through Green Man Gaming and get 25% off

large-5-640x350
We know that PC gaming is always cheaper than console gaming and we all hear about those huge discounts. Most of the time, this happens due to the fact that PC gamers aren’t locked into one marketplace to buy PC games like consoles are, sure most people use Steam (because they have great sales) but others are always trying to under price Steam. Like Green Man Gaming, who is running a sale on Alien: Isolation for PC already! 25% off making the game check out to $37.50! Just enter: GMG25-0YUM5-VKMVU at checkout!

The best part? The DRM is said to be Steam Powered, so you can still add it to your Steam library when it comes out.

Alien: Isolation developers diary – ‘Origin’

Check out this developer diary for the newly announced Alien: Isolation, now we get to hear the guys at Creative Assembly talk about what they are trying to create and so far it sounds good. They want to focus on the original Alien, from the first movie. Not give the players ‘tons’ of Aliens to mow down, make the space ship look low-fi sci-fi feel to it. I like what I’m hearing, but talk is cheap so I can’t wait to play this title.

What are your impressions?

Phantasy Star Online 2 producer tells us whats in store for 2014

Phantasy-Star-Online-2_2012_06-14-12_058.jpg_600

Satoshi Sakai recently wished all Phantasy Star Online 2 fans a ‘Happy New Year’ and briefly talked about what is in store for the future of Phantasy Star Online 2. He promised finishing off Episode 2′ final storyline (yes, it has a story!) and other lose ends. But you know what is also launching? Phantasy Star Online 2 es! What is that? Oh, its that mobile version they announced along with the PC/Vita versions of the game. Yes, that is finally coming out this year.

They will also have new events including Arcs Coalition Festivals that starts this month and around March they will introduce a new update that will allow people to team up with Mamoru Nagano (a mangaka that worked on Heavy Metal L-Gaim, Five Star Stories and Gothicmade). 2014 will also mark the 2nd year anniversary of Phantasy Star Online 2, which they promise will have a big celebration. Yes, the game is already reaching its 2nd year of release in Japan and here we sit waiting for SEGA West the English version…

But don’t worry, we already know that the game will be launching in full English later this year… in Southeast Asia! Since many Westerners already play the Japanese version with a patch, I assume many will just download the English Southeast Asian version and play that. I’ll catch you guys on those servers later this year!

SEGA plans on bringing free-to-play games to the Nintendo 3DS

20131227_043818_thumb
SEGA seems to really have partnered up with Nintendo for this generation. With the Wii U getting exclusive SEGA IPs like Sonic Lost World, it’s hard not to notice. Where are all those Playstation 4 and Xbox One SEGA games? Well, it seems that SEGA has more games planned for a Nintendo product; the Nintendo 3DS, and these games won’t cost you  a cent! SEGA Japan already announced their first ‘free-to-play’ 3DS title with “Initial D: Perfect Shift Online“.

“We don’t intend to stop with this title, and after looking over its results, we’ll think about what to do next. However, unlike games for smartphones, I believe there’s a perfect shape of ways to do things, somewhere out there, for the Nintendo 3DS. I believe that finding it will be our challenge, and in many ways, Initial D will be our first step.” – Toshihiro Nagoshi

It is not surprising considering the fact that SEGA boosted about the success of their free-to-play titles in their last earning reports. It seems that SEGA’s catalogue for free-to-play games continues to grow, do you think it’s worth SEGA’s investment?

Amazon giving free copies of Sonic the Hedgehog on Android

amazonsonic1
Hey, not all Black Friday deals make you stand in line with a super violent mob of soccer moms, at least not when you are dealing with Amazon. The online store giant really wants you to buy Android applications through them instead of Google Play Store and to show how much they want your business they are giving a slew of Android games for free. Usually the lists are full of stuff like Fruit Ninjas and some revision of Angry Birds (they’re still there) but this time they also added Sonic the Hedgehog for free.

Now you have something to be thankful for, free Hedgehog action.

EA admits defeat to SEGA’s Football Manager, no more FIFA Manager series

footballmanager14ea
Before SEGA owned Sports Interactive and the Football Manager series, SEGA fought against EA Sports with their brand called ‘SEGA Sports’. Seems that SEGA finally gets a small victory (especially after they took the NFL license and was forced to sell Visual Concepts and its 2K brand of sports titles to Take Two). EA Sports has announced that they will not longer publish their own FIFA Manager series.

FIFA Manager 14 will be the last entry in the franchise, here is lead designer Gerald Köhler explaining the reason for leaving the Football sim market.

“The football manager genre at this level of sophistication is highly specialised and primarily played in two countries (England and Germany), in which – on top of everything – one game has practically dominated the market in recent years. The niche market and general trend toward online and mobile games were also contributing factors. Moreover, FM had reached a crossroads at which a new engine and/or corresponding online technology would be the only way to give the series a boost. When all these factors were evaluated, it led us to the decision to blow the final whistle. We hope you’ll keep playing FM as long as possible, and that the fan sites will go all out to expand and improve the game wherever they can. For all your years of support and all your passion for our game, we thank you.”

I hope the FIFA Manager team finds jobs developing other games, I don’t like people losing their jobs. But hey, at least SEGA didn’t pull a grimy move and buy some sort of sports license to kill the competition, right?
