The Weekly Five: SEGA PSP games that should be ported to PS3

SEGA has had some highly rated games released on the PSP, sadly mostly everyone outside of Japan has decided to ignore the platform. Sony recently announced the ‘PSP Remasters’ series. Games from PSP ported over and enhanced on the Playstation 3.

One of the first games to get this treatment has been Monster Hunter Freedom 3, which looks great. I decided to put together 5 games that deserve the PSP Remasters treatment.

PSO2 livestream now live! [Update]

[Update: It’s over! I’m desperately trying to find a video of the trailer that was shown, but in the meantime you can look at my low quality screenshot!]

Well… it’s not exactly PSO2 just yet. Just a bunch of Japanese people talking and playing PSP2… but this is where the PSO2 footage is supposed to appear. So keep your eyes peeled!

This isn’t the official stream btw, just a fan stream of the official stream. So you don’t gotta worry about limits or moonspeak!

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity has sold 312k copies so far

The latest Media Create Sales are out for the week, ending on April 3rd. Guess who came in at number 10? Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity and it sold 12,000 units for the week. Not bad.

On the same note, the PSP has outsold the 3DS for the second week in Japan as well. Maybe SEGA focusing on PSP titles in Japan isn’t that big of a mistake after all. If only the NGP would perform better in the west, I guess we will see.

SEGA in the Charts: Japanese sales 21 – 27 Feb 2011

It’s been a while since the last major Japanese release for SEGA but the wait is finally over, Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity was released in the same week as the new handheld 3DS. Whilst Phantasy Star Portble 2: Infinity posted some impressive numbers below, it does not tell the full story;

Position / Platform / Title / Weekly numbers / Lifetime numbers

01 [PSP] Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity  206,654 / NEW

When the first Phantasy Star Portable was released, it managed to sell in the region of 360,000 units and the sequel, PSP2, managed 280,000 whilst the newest entry into the series shows further steep decline for sales in the series, perhaps the bubble is slowly bursting, but who knows, yearly releases are bound to have an effect, so it’ll be interesting to see the result when Phantasy Star Online 2 is released, although with the PC market in Japan, I would not be surprised about the level of sales being lower.

The original shipment for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity was around 330,000 so expect strong sales for next week too. Although will it still be number one in a week’s time? Doubtful as the new Dissidia is released for PSP, but it may still hold onto second place.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinty ties-in with Toro Station

Phantasy Star Portable 2 already did a Toro tie-in, and SEGA has something new planned for the extended version of the game. They added two more weapons, the Nyackle (pun on knuckles, nya is the sound of cats) and Mr. Television grenade.

  • Nyackle: Will be Toro and Kuro on your knuckles, when you attack they will say stuff.
  • Mr. Television grenade: Is the TV set from Toro Station, you will be able to throw it and make it rain washtubs.

Not only that, you will also be able to get a Mr. Television room decoration. Check out the photos of the items being used.

Physical Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity demo detailed

Do you love limited released SEGA stuff? I do, even though I never get anything and all the good stuff is from Japan. When SEGA does put good stuff on their Free Stuff Friday, some dude named MarioLugiKratos always ends up getting it. Bummer.

The demo is going to be limited to 10,000 units. To get one you have to cross a Rappy’s ears and then fill out some application stuff. This is all for Japan, you can also fill out this application and hand it to SEGA at their Jump Festa booth.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity crosses with Border Break and Shining Force

More of those tie-ins we all love, right? This time Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity will tie-in with Shining Force Cross Raid and Border Break Air Burst. Sorry for those thinking it would have been the original Shining Force.

The cross over content will be released as DLC, this will include costumes and weapons. Also Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity will have weapons, characters and costumes available for Border Break Air Burst  and Shining Force Cross Raid. Now that is how you cross promote a game. Sadly, no screens of the cross over have been made public.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity gets Sakura Wars tie-in

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity (PSP2i) isn’t afraid to have a ton of tie-ins, there has been a great deal announced. Now that Sakura Wars has a new game, it seems like a good time to announce the PSP2i tie-in. SEGA did not provide screens or much information on what will be released, but we do know it will be ‘pay’ DLC. So if you like Sakura Wars, get your credit card ready.

Other tie-in announced was Kaito Tenshi Twin Angel 2, which happens to be a popular SAMMY Kaito Tenshi Twin Angel 2, a popular Sammy pachinko machine.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity features Evangelion and Gurren Lagann cross overs

More Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity tie-ins have been announced. I know you are excited. Just like Phantasy Star Portable 2, this new remix edition will have the Evangelion tie-in and they are adding a tie-in with Gurren Lagann. They are adding the Gainax mecha from Gurren Lagann, as playable. Pretty cool.

The “Gurren Lagann Set” comes with a drill and Gurren Boomerang for male avatars. You can see the drill and boomerang if you check out the gallery after the jump.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity has Nico Nico Douga items

Nico Nico Douga (translates to “Smiley Smiley Videos”) is a Japanese online video sharing site that is quite popular. It is basically the YouTube of Japan. Well, the site will have tie-in promo with the upcoming Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity.

You will be able to get TV-Chan and Niwango object for your room. Both are pictured above. SEGA still has more items to show in the near future, so lets hope for more SEGA tie-ins and less advert stuff.

Game hits Japanese shores on February 24, 2011. No western announcement has been made.

PSP2 Infinity has new race designs

male newman

Male forces have been made incredibly feminine looking.

It looks as if SEGA and Sonic Team have given the races of Phantasy Star Portable 2 a makeover in Phantasy Star Portable 2 infinity. Every race has been given a new look. Hit the jump to see the rest of the races and a piece of concept art. I wonder if this is a sign of things to come for PSO2. Guess we will find out next year.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity allows user created quests

SEGA has decided to add a little something new for story missions in Phantasy  Star Portable 2 Infinity. Since the game will use some of the same missions, now users can set their own missions with difficulty levels that range from 1 to 30.

The game turns mission discs, found in the game to parameters for custom missions. You can set stuff like having monsters with low HP, high experience points and even high drop rate. There are over 100 mission codes to collect in the full game. Once you make your custom mission, it will be labeled as yours.

You can play the missions solo or share them online via infrastructure mode. Phantasy Star Porbable 2 Infinity comes out in Japan on February 24, 2011. No western release announcement has been made.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity to feature Colonel Sanders

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity is one of the two projects SEGA has planned for Phantasy Star Online’s 10th anniversary. What better way to celebrate the 10 years than going on co-op missions with Mr. Sanders himself? I could actually think of 10 thousand other things, but this is what you get.

Why is this happening? I guess KFC is having a anniversary, 40 years ago they opened up the first KFC in Japan. So this is why they are doing this cross promotion. You will be able to take missions and play them with Colonel Sanders helping you out.
