Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie tie-in books are now available to pre-order

I’ve long been a fan of Sonic kid’s books, even when I was well past the age of being a kid. The past few years have seen some excellent short story collections set in the game universe, and with the new Sonic movies from Paramount there are even more Sonic books to collect! Now available for pre-order are a collection of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 books based on the upcoming movie. I thought it would be handy to fans if I broke down the new releases and shared where you can purchase them.

Numskull Sonic the Hedgehog Advent calendar revealed – build your own statue!

Via Treasure Hunting Sonic comes news that a new Sonic product from Numskull is on the way just in time for Christmas: a Sonic the Hedgehog Advent calendar! Each day in December, leading up to Christmas, fans will open doors to reveal pieces of a buildable statue featuring classic Sonic riding a snowboard straight out of Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s Ice Cap Zone. The product is currently up for pre-order on GameStop for $49.99. Will you be building a Sonic this holiday season?

Unboxing: Sonic Colors Ultimate Japanese 30th Anniversary Pack

Sonic Colors Ultimate has rolled out to (almost) all territories, and most physical editions include some goodies. American and European fans received a Baby Sonic keychain, a cross promotion for the Sonic movie. Japanese fans, meanwhile, received an awesome 30th Anniversary Pack which evokes the 10th Birthday Pack as both contain a coin, CD and book.

In the case of the 30th Anniversary, SEGA included a classy gold coin, a CD of unique tracks including music from cutscenes, YouTube animations and past album-exclusive remixes. The book, meanwhile, is a cool look back on a year and a half of art created for the Japanese Sonic Twitter account. The art includes full commentary from the artists, sketches and easter eggs.

Sonic Boom Season 2 Blu-ray Announced, Releasing September 2021

Amazon listings for a Sonic Boom Season 2 blu-ray and Sonic Boom Season 2 Volume 2 DVD have appeared, making the full series finally available to own on physical media. Both releases will be available September 21, 2021. Sonic Boom, the TV series, was part of a multimedia branch of the Sonic franchise which consisted of video games, toys and comics. Boom was a total reboot with a new canon and unique characters in addition to drastically redesigned and reimagined characters from the Sonic franchise. The attempt to create a new branch fully controlled by SEGA of America fell apart largely due to the mismanagement and poor quality of the video games (namely the Wii U game, as I still stand by the 3DS games being good) and an overall inconsistent level of quality and tone.

Many fans of Boom argue that the TV series was the best aspect of the whole project and now the second half of the TV series, which ran from 2014 to 2017 and saw 104 episodes, will finally see release. Will you be picking up Sonic Boom Season 2 on blu-ray or DVD?

Steamforged Games announces Sonic The Card Game, releasing 2021

Steamforged Games, creators of tabletop games including several licensed video game board and card games, have announced Sonic The Card Game. From their website: “Sonic’s the name, and speed is the game—literally! Join the beloved blue blur in a competitive card racing game where you’ll collect power-ups and rings to win. It’s fast family fun you’ll race through again and again.”

Little else is known, but once we learn more about the game we’ll be sure to news it! Thanks for the tip, Berto!

Sonic Boom Season 1 Blu-Ray and Season 2 Volume 1 DVD Announced – Coming May 2021

Maybe its the recent voice cast departure news, or maybe I’ve softened on the now cancelled “new branch” of the Sonic franchise, but I have to admit I was really happy to learn today that not only will Sonic Boom season 2 receive a Volume 1 DVD release (with a Volume 2 to follow) but there will also be a Sonic Boom season 1 blu-ray release. LEGO Ideas Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone Given the Green Light

LEGO Ideas, the official LEGO outlet that gives fans the ability to submit designs for official approval and release, has announced that the Sonic Mania: Green Hill Zone set from Viv Grannell aka toastergrl has been given the green light! This means that SEGA has signed on to the project and it will carry the official Sonic the Hedgehog license. The next step will have LEGO’s builders review the build and make any refinements or develop new unique pieces. From there, we should see an official reveal, box art and some pre-order links! But it is going to take some time. Hopefully the Sonic Mania branding remains intact and it releases for the 30th anniversary.
