Rocket Panda now available to purchase on Genesis/Mega-Drive cartridge

Looking for a new game in a functioning cartridge for your Genesis/Mega-Drive console? Rocket Panda is finally available to purchase as a physical cartridge complete with a box and manual to play on your original Genesis. The game was made available on September 16th, 2024. (Please excuse our tardiness in reporting the news.)

Rocket Panda was made by Space Pants Games and published by Mega Cat Studios. Both companies collaborated on a Kickstarter campaign to develop this game back in February of this year, and now the game is complete and available to ship to buyers. If you backed that Kickstarter, chances are you may have received your own copy by now if you pledged enough money for one, or you may receive it soon. Be sure to keep up with updates on the Kickstarter page. Everyone else can now buy their own original copy complete in box or just the cartridge on its own. A special Limited Edition, coming with a cartridge of its own unique design, is also available.

Here’s the skinny on Rocket Panda, courtesy of Mega Cat Studios

The evil Biscuit Head has invaded Biscuit Land, home of not just Rocket Panda but his small furry band of Badgers as well. The Badgers have been kidnapped and a menagerie of enemies have taken over the land and it’s up to Rocket Panda to deftly fly to the rescue!

In this fun jetpack adventure, assume the role of Rocket Panda as you guide him through a terrifyingly tasty world of dangerous mazes, looking out for Flying Pigs, Mines, Toasters, Tanks, and UFOs! Help Rocket Panda rescue Badgers that are hidden in the maze, who would follow our hero acting as limited shields!

Here’s the list of features in the game.

  • Blast through hordes of enemies commanded by the evil Biscuit Head, such as Flying Pigs, Mines, Toasters, Tanks, UFOs, and other dangerous creatures!
  • Collect all of the biscuits for the highest score and drink tea to power up your dash move!
  • Challenge and defeat 7 Bosses in the game, including a giant Teacup, Dragon, Mega Toast, and Cheese Ball.
  • Fly through 60+ levels in the game, taking you across 7 worlds, from Biscuit City to the Ice Cream Archipelago, the Chocolate Mountains, Candy Catacombs, and more!

Sounds amazing, right? So amazing, that you wanna pelt your hard-earned money at your screen and see the cartridge at your doorstep? Well, then head on to Mega Cat Studios’s store page for Rocket Panda here and select a version of the game to purchase. The cartridge on its own can be bought for $49.99 USD, a complete copy including a box and manual can be had for $59.99, and a Limited Edition copy containing a “Panda cartridge” can be procured for $150. (I honestly didn’t know at first that was a cartridge.) Genesis and European Mega-Drive variants of the game are available, but the game is otherwise region-free and should work on any Genesis/Mega-Drive console.

Before you buy Rocket Panda, make sure that you try out the free demo that you can download right from the store page. The demo rom can be played in your favorite Genesis emulator, on a real console with a flash cartridge such as any Mega Everdrive, or on some FPGA consoles like MiSTer.

Be sure to check out the other Genesis games offered at Mega Cat Studios too, including widely beloved indie hits like Tanzer, Tanglewood, and Romeow & Julicat. The 240p Test Suite is even available there.

Will you be purchasing Rocket Panda? Did you back the Kickstarter? What do you think of the game or the demo? Feeling hungry for some sweets? Lets talk about it over some baked snacks and coffee or milk in the comments below.
