Grin was the developer that earned lots of respect for succefully rebooting Bionic Commando with Bionic Commando Rearmed on XBLA, then later released on PSN and PC. After this success, Capcom ordered them to make a full priced game which wasn’t meet with much critical praise.
Though that didn’t slow the developer down; Grin was working back at Capcom trying to reboot the Strider franchise for them. The idea was that it was supposed to launch on XBLA, PSN and PC just like Bionic Commando Rearmed did. But the project was cancelled in 2009. So they moved on and looked for another company that wanted to reboot their IP and naturally came to SEGA. The remake was set for digital platforms only and like their last project, it was supposed to be a reboot like Bionic Commando Rearmed.
What I posted is all that has been released on the game, including a few screenshots, artwork and design ideas. Eurogamer states that there is a ‘working’ prototype of the game running. I want that, please. So what happened to Grin? They were also working on a big Final Fantasy spin-off game called Fortress. They stated that Square-Enix never paid the developers for their works, thus they filed for bankruptcy. With them, it seems that the Streets of Rage remake project is now dead. Or is it? Does this now explain why SEGA shut down the Streets of Rage HD remake?

I am not sure what to think of this.
However one thing’s for sure; Don’t know if he was or wasnt part of it, but Streets of rage would never be streets of rage without yuzo koshiro.
So I guess one that was officially licensed by Sega involving the Bomber Games crew would be a piece of crap then? By the way, this is coming from a person that’s played both Genesis AND MegaDrive (Japanese version because the EU ones are essentially the same as the US ones and I’ve beat them ALL like a drum set even on the highest difficulty WITHOUT cheats, son. Trust me, a SoRR 6.0 would not be a bad idea for those guys.
By SorR is just a polished version of sir trilogy!! It’s not its own game at all, its more like an anniversary collection edition like Metal slug anthology.
Though, one thing I give bombergames credit for is how well they created an engine which is very very similar to Sor3 that’s awesome but aside from that it’s all just SOR 1-3
I dunno, I’d like to play it but… it looks kinda UGLY.
Still, prototype etc.
it was ugly anyway, i’m looking forward to Guardian Heroes II from treasure instead.
Fuck you, Square. I wanted this game for years. You better not have killed it…
I second that.
I echo the sentiments of the guy right above me. Though, I wouldn’t use the same language lol. There are some games that are cool and have acquired a fanbase. Then there are games that are so in your face, freakin amazing that your eyes bleed purple puss and you wake up every day hoping to hear about a sequel of any kind. Streets of Rage is one of those games. I think I’m gonna go out back and use my steel pipe on someone to vent
Try the morons at Sega who pulled the Streets of Rage Remake. I would consider those people your first choices.
As much as i would love a new SOR game, looking at the work in progress screens “scare me”
I would rather they kept it fully 2D even with sprites.
Oh, no, here we go again with the old purist/elitist “let’s keep it 2-D, dur-hur, herpy-derp” drivel again. Look, if it’s done right in 3-D, I honestly don’t really give a flying poop of whether it’s in 2-D or 3-D, just as long as I have a GOOD GAME, that’s all. If you want to argue, then politely know your role and shut your piehole because, quite frankly, I’m tired of hearing people who say those kinds of things.
How come the aart is so difference from the previously released Grin Art Work?

I’m not interested in a Bare Knuckle game without Nroiyoshi Obha and ANCIENT (The Koshiro family studio).
That looks terrible.
Doesn’t look brilliant, more like an update up the first game. I imagine it would have had promise though if it had been finished. I’ve longed for a new SoR for years.
Is this definitly not happening then?
This was under Simon Jeffery’s regime when SOJ gave him the mandate to “western” certain IPs. This was one of them. It was also one of the many titles that ended up getting cancelled when Sega kicked out Jeffery and Mike Hayes took over because many of the games jeffery signed up were either in development hell(Obsidian’s ALIEN CRUCIBLE RPG), legal litigation (Silicon knights THE RITUALIST ) or this game developers case,Grin was going under. That doesn’t mean a RAGE game won’t be coming.
Streets of Rage? Always ugly? Get to f**k.
I must admit though an SoR remake without ANCIENT input would have been weird, Simon Viklund could have worked magic with remixes.
Glad SoR was scrapped.
It needs Premium treatment by Sega.
You should be slapped so many times for that statement that even Diamond (one of the
SoR/BK3 girls) would have a hard time keeping up with you, Betablocker! Just because YOU don’t like a game that Ancient wasn’t behind on doesn’t mean that a good, quality SoR game can’t be made, case in point, the fan-made game Streets of Rage Remake. With that being said, I would second an greement that Ancient should be behind this game but I would like it best if Ancient, the Bomber Games crew, and this guy would all work together on the title, along with myself and the people who worked on the Sega Streets of Rage comic book (can we say new boss, thug, and weapon material).
