Virtua Tennis 4 release date announced for North America! Also, cover art.

UPDATE: Europe can expect the game a week early, with the European release date announced as being April 29th, 2011.

Restring your racquets, Virtua Tennis 4 has a release date! SEGA has announced that Virtua Tennis 4 will be hitting the Wii, PS3 and 360 on May 10, 2011 in North America! Also, SEGA has released the cover art. Want to see the PS3 and Wii cover, as well as a press release?

SEGA SERVES UP VIRTUA TENNIS 4 RELEASE DATE

SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. are pleased to confirm that Virtua Tennis™ 4 for PlayStation®3, Xbox 360® and Wii™ will hit stores across North America on May 10, 2011.

As spring hits and tennis fever takes over the world, top tennis stars warm up and head for the courts to battle it out and be crowned No 1. Relive the tension and excitement with Virtua Tennis 4 by taking on the likes of tennis heroes Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Juan Martin Del Porto and Caroline Wozniacki. Experience the same intense drama as you build up your Match Momentum gauge, and revel in your form as your player grows in confidence.

Virtua Tennis 4 takes the series to a higher level of realism with the PlayStation®Move, MotionPlus and Kinect™ compatibility, pushing the tennis genre forward yet again. Exciting new features such as a refreshing World Tour experience means every decision you make both on and off the court will affect your path. You’ll never experience the same career twice!

Sounds great! Cannot wait to play this, both with the controller and with the Kinect. Reportedly, you can be mugged in the exhibition mode if you visit a rough part of the world. Stay out of Philadelphia!

Since the fourth cover has hit, I thought I’d present a series overview of box art. I used the PAL Dreamcast versions as I think they’re the best, plus the game was known as Tennis 2k2 in the US. Included 2009 as it is basically Virtua Tennis 3.5.

  1. George says:

Why does 360 version get top billing? I feel like my PS3 rights have been revoked. 🙂

  2. Remember, I am a biased fanboy! Move needs to "move on", motion plus is a "motion minus" and the world must "Kinect"!

  3. DCGX says:

The first game in the US was also Virtua Tennis. The second game was Tennis 2K2 to follow suit with the other Sega Sports games.

  4. And then we have Power Smash in Japan. Though I prefer the Virtua title, goes well with Fighter, Racing, Striker and Hamster.

    >better

  6. Aki-at says:

Either Nadal paid top dollar for a neck operation or SEGA paid as little as possible for the boxart people.

  7. -nSega54- says:

Wii version for me. Motion Plus=awesome.

  8. Sega Uranus says:

Sony needs to fuck off with the "Only On PlayStation" banner. I used to resect them for being the only on not to use them, now the are the only ones who do it.

Also, dear lord the colors are terrible on the Xbox 360 box.

  9. Yeah, what is up with the "ONLY ON PLAYSTATION"? The game is clearly multiplatform. Unless they mean Move being only on Playstation. If that's the case, that's pretty damn stupid.
