You ask even the most jaded Sonic haters out there if there’s one thing they like about Sonic games, and they’re most likely to say its the music. Sonic seldom has a lacking soundtrack to go with any of the games, and to celebrate the 35th anniversary of this beloved franchise, Melodies Zone has come back with a new album of fan remixes of many of the most memorable songs throughout those 35 years.
Here, you’ll find a staggering 56 remixes from many known Melodies Zone composers like Hotline Sehwani, Lian Fort, Chief Takinawa, and Pixel Boy, as well as many brand new artists. Most of the games from the entire series are represented here, from the original game that started it all up to Sonic Racing: Crossworlds. Most of the remixes are relaxing, downtempo lo-fi, jazzhop, and chillhop, serving as perfect background tunes for relaxing or working with comforting memories of enjoying your favorite Sonic games to get you through the day, but there are a couple from a variety of more high energy music genres such as metal, drum & bass, and future funk to compliment a workout that Sonic himself would find fulfilling.
Sounds like a good listen? Come on in past the break and get ready to juice and jam.

Here’s what Melodies Zone had to tell us about how they envisioned this album coming together:
The idea for this album has been in my head since Sonic’s 30th anniversary, so bringing it together for Sonic’s 35th felt like the perfect moment. Sonic’s music has meant so much to so many people, and I wanted this album to feel like a true fan tribute to that legacy.
What makes this project special is that it is not just a collection of covers. It is a journey through Sonic’s musical history, with each track chosen and arranged to show how timeless and adaptable this music really is.
Sonic music has always had this incredible range, from upbeat pop and funk to rock, electronic, orchestral, and experimental sounds. We wanted the album to reflect that same sense of variety and momentum.
The album features familiar Melodies Zone artists alongside a wave of new talent. Because this was such a big project, we went searching for new musicians who had a genuine love for Sonic and could bring something personal to the soundtrack.
This album is also a glimpse at the future of Melodies Zone. Some of the new artists featured here are already working on their own solo releases, so Sonic’s 35th felt like a great way to introduce them to listeners.
Fans of the classic Melodies Zone sound will still find a lot to love here, including Mito Namikawa and Robert M. Bach’s guitar-driven jazzhop take on Green Hill Zone, Hotline Sehwani’s uniquely atmospheric chillhop instrumental version of A New Venture, ZAKERY’s bright, upbeat take on Tails’s Labratory, Mundiaxis’s samba and jazzhop-inspired Palmtree Panic Past, and tibonev’s easy-listening cover of Results from Sonic ’06.
This project is a love letter to Sonic’s music history, but it is also a showcase of what fan musicians can do when they are given space to bring their own identity to the material.
You can stream the entire album on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Tidal, and Deezer or buy and download the whole thing from iTunes. All up-to-date links to partake in this aural celebration of Sonic can be reached from this convenient directory. The rest of Melodies Zone’s discography can be found in several places, all compiled into this other convenient directory. They have so much more video game remixes, including Sonic remixes, from a wide variety of talented composers including many of the ones featured in this album. Many of those artists also upload their songs to their own YouTube pages and in other areas online, so be sure to follow your favorites too.
They also feature 24/7 live radio stations on the Melodies Zone YouTube page with many music remixes. I would like to highlight the Sonic related radio stations here. The first is the Sonic & Chill Radio station, consisting entirely of relaxing, downtempo Sonic remixes perfect for a relaxing day. You’ll also notice that the view from Sonic’s window changes with the seasons. In Spring, it shows Press Garden Zone from Sonic Mania. In Summer (Currently, the day this article is uploaded), you see Neo Green Hill Zone from Sonic Advance. During Fall, Mushroom Hill Zone from Sonic & Knuckles is shown. Finally, you see Ice Cap Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in Winter.
For a day with more energy, there’s the Sonic Remix Radio station, where DJ Sonic spins an endless variety of Sonic remixes that have a beat to them.
Finally, there’s the Shadow Remix Radio station, a station consisting entirely of Shadow the Hedgehog adjacent music from Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 06, and Shadow Generations (Plus, one remix of Shadow’s stage theme from Sonic Battle), as Shadow races through Radical Highway and the Space Colony ARK with unshakable focus and motivation. The featured tracks in this station are a mix of high and low tempo songs and includes musical artists from outside Melodies Zone’s scope, such as Vincent Moretto, Jonny Atma, and Silent Dreams. Originally started in 2024, when Sega established “Fearless: The Year of Shadow” to drum up anticipation for Sonic X Shadow Generations and the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, this radio station has stayed up uninterrupted even as The Year of Shadow has long come to a close.
Each of Melodies Zone’s YouTube radio stations occasionally gets new tracks added to their setlists, so it’s only a matter of time until the tracks from this new 35th anniversary album are added to each one that they fit in with.
So how are you liking Sonic the Hedgehog: 35 Years In Motion’s music? Are you already a fan of any Melodies Zone’s composers? Are you thinking of keeping tabs on any of the new artists introduced with this album? Rap about it in the comments below.
And be sure to check out the fan album Melodies Zone released last June for Sega’s 65th birthday, featuring many of the artists that were on this new Sonic album.
