Retail Dreamcast collection will pack four games

SEGA have set Feburary 2011 as the date for their ‘Dreamcast Collection’ retail disc. Fans spouted out games they wanted like the usual favorites Shenmue and Jet Set Radio. Sadly, this will not happen, SEGA has confirmed the four games the collection will have.

  • Sonic Adventure
  • Crazy Taxi
  • SEGA Bass Fishing
  • Space Channel 5 part 2

Basically its a compilation of their digital titles they have already announced. Here is something new though, it is also coming to PC, no Playstation 3 version! The press release does not say if Sonic Adventure version will come with the DX downloadable content on disc, my guess is probably not. Hit the jump for the press release.

SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that a packaged compilation of  classic titles from  SEGA’s  popular Dreamcast™  console will hit retail shelves on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and the PC. The Dreamcast Collection will be available on February 25th 2011 in Europe and February 22nd in North America, February 24th in Australia and February 25th in New Zealand.

The Dreamcast Collection includes the fan favourites Sonic Adventure™, Crazy Taxi™, SEGA Bass Fishing™ and Space Channel 5™: Part 2.  Players will get to enjoy four very different Dreamcast experiences, from hopping behind the steering wheel of Crazy Taxi, to taking things a little slower by luring in their fish before catching them hook, line and sinker with SEGA Bass Fishing. Alternatively, take over as intergalactic news reporter Ulala in Space Channel 5: Part 2 and dance your way past the evil Rhythm Rogues, or make it all about speed in Sonic’s first Dreamcast outing, Sonic Adventure!

SEGA’s Dreamcast Collection features enhanced graphics for both platforms versions, providing an even more engaging experience. In addition to this, achievements and online leader boards will be available for each game providing a competitive edge and allowing players to prove their skills!

“The Dreamcast console is still remembered as a pioneering console for online gaming,” commented Gary Knight, VP of Marketing at SEGA of America and SEGA Europe “We are delighted to be able to offer to our large community of dedicated fans a collection such as Dreamcast Collection for them to enjoy old favourites on this generation of consoles”.

Dreamcast Collection will be available in Europe in February 2011 for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PC and PC digital download.

Hmm I expected more, but I hope there will be more collection releases than this. And hopefully it will have a nice cover with the Dreamcast logo on it.

Not much of a collection as they will all be available on XBOX live in a few months from now. I did want to pick up all those games anyway and now I can get them all in one shot. Hopefully it won't cost more than $40 or I'll hold off for a while.

We should have got a bone with a bigger title like JSR or Skies of Arcadia. Oh well, there's always room for volume 2.

  3. Sharky says:

This is exactly what I expected… Lazy shit.

They could have AT LEAST had Chu Chu Rocket… REZ? Virtual ON? Christ almighty.

Not on your life would I put money down for this, The two games that have already come out in this series have both had issues.

If this isn't VERY cheap I'lll be pissed.

I don't know, this was exactly what I was expecting so I'm not let down. Honestly, people were crazy to think that SEGA wold shoot their wad and cram every Dreamcast great on one disc when they could release them on XBLA and PSN at $10 each instead. It's simply something for the kiddies who don't buy games on XBLA. As a Dreamcast collector, I'll pick it up. But as a SEGA fan I'll complain about the lack of DLC being included and the missed opportunity of including video interviews and advert galleries.

I'm kinda surprised about the pc release, but I'd rather have those available through digital distribution (steam, gamersgate, …) instead.

  6. CrazyTails says:

That's a crap collection. Even if I would like to have one of them 4 (sonic adventure). The whole package is not worth getting it at all.

    SEGA lately….

  7. DCGX says:

To quote a buddy of mine when DC games began to go multiplatform years ago: "I'd rather have the (physical) Dreamcast version."

  8. ezodagrom says:

Bah…didn't notice the "and PC digital download" in the end when I made my previous comment. ._.

Now I wonder if the games will be available separately in the download releases (hope so, since the only one I want is Sonic Adventure).

  9. F-D_M says:

    At least a good cover;)

  10. Sharky says:

Seriously if they'd have just put that damn Chu Chu Rocket on iPad in the collection too I'd have been happy.

  11. F-D_M says:

    Totally Agreed, Sharky!

  12. I'm cool with the games themselves, though for the disc release it would have been awesome if they included tons of stuff specific to the games. For example, full package art and manuals of the Dreamcast originals, print ad gallery, commercials gallery, interviews with the devs of the games, disc exclusive avatar items (maybe a DC console for your avatar?) and maybe include a cool poster or stickers in the game case.

  13. Centrale says:

I was holding off on getting the XBLA versions since I expected this to be a compilation of them. I expect this'll be the first of several such compilations as they continue to trickle out the digital releases.

  14. Sharky says:

I can tell you right away that there will be more volumes… There are more DC games coming for XBLA/PSN.

But I mean seriously Chu Chu Rocket and REZ were both a missed oppertunity, four games is weak.

It better be a budget price…

  15. Rez is already out on the excellent compilation disc "Qubed 3", so theres no real reason to stick it on a Dreamcast collection disc. Perhaps Q Entertainment has certain rights over the HD version of the game? So it would probably be difficult to do anyway, from a legal standpoint?

It would be great if the next 4 games were Sonic Adventure 2, Chu Chu Rocket, Sega Rally 2 and Virtua Fighter 3tb. I'd prefer larger games like Skies of Arcadia and Shenmue to be grouped as RPG collections, separate from the other games.

  16. George says:

Wasn't it suppose to be $30 dollars? That means each title is less than what they cost digitally? Good deal if someone didn't get them on XBLA already.

  17. Sega Uranus says:

I am mixed on this. Especially when it is Xbox 360 and PC only, would it have been that hard to get at least VOOT on there?

It is likely that I will get this though. The games ported so far are not the absolute worst versions of the games, even if they could be a lot better and I am an early Xbox 360 supporter, meaning I have the 20gb HDD. This would save me a lot of space.

  18. I'm sure I'll buy it, but this is pretty stupid to call a collection.

  19. upsidedown fuji says:

My only real question is who thought get bass was a good idea to port? A lot of the fun is lost when you don't have the fishing controller, which I do own. I doubt there will be any controller adapter released just for this game. :/

  20. MadeManG74 says:

    lol, Sega

  21. upsidedown fuji says:

Has anyone picked up a copy of this yet? I am considering importing it.
