Did you know that when Sonic Adventure 2 was announced only Sonic, Eggman and Knuckles were suppose to be playable characters? Yeah, explains why Tails had to play in that big robot suit and exactly like Eggman himself.

Not buying it. The E3 Trailer they refer to doesn't show a playable Shadow but clearly infers it.

What is the point of having Rogue and Shadow, characters essentially mimicking Knuckles and Sonic if they won't be playing. Wouldn't the odds be unfavorable having 2 light characters and one playable Dark Character?
A Sonic game without Tails, is also highly unlikely. Even If Tails wasn't meant to be in a mech, he would probably be trailing Sonic like he does in all the classics including Aventure 1.
Every one knows about the SOAP deal, so nothing new.
Sharky you can probably find GameShark codes to unlock Sonic's original shoes.
I remember seeing this trailer. A lot of initial trailers for the more recent Sonic games usually end being really different by comparison to the final product.
The first trailer for Sonic 06 teased being able to change to Super Sonic outside of the final boss, a feature that was absent in the final game.
Cool video, though I agree with Cube. I doubt Sonic, Knux and Eggman were the ONLY planned playable characters considering how much the teaser hinted at two sides to everything. Why develop characters that could play very much like Sonic and Knuckles when you would never play as them and only see them in cutscenes? Tails, however, I do buy as being shoehorned in later in development.

I also find interesting that fans complained for LACK of characters. I remember that by SA1 the roster was very satisfying already.

I think Tails was a strong presence in SA2, and I am huge Tails fan I would notice if he was treated inferiorly like he was in let's say Sonic 06.
Sonic 06 and even Shadow turned out much inferiorly then the fans or developers may have expected it to be.
I saw this trailer when it debuted and I was very disappointed by the fact that Tails may not have been in it. I didn't think it would have been Sonic without him and so I was very glad he was later confirmed.
Sharky: to say that SonicTeam should ignore their fans is pretty extreme. They are, afterall, the ones who will be buying the game.
These are false Internet rumors from almost a decade ago. Unseen64 usually knows what they are on about, but not here.
If it were just Sonic, Knuckles and Robotnik then the way the game would progress would be entirely different. The story had to have been completed fairly early in development for this to be true, and the game was released less than a year after the original trailer was out, not enough time to redesign the structure. The most obvious point is that all of the voices were recorded almost a year before the game was out. There would simply be no time to re-write and re-act out everything.
And the most glaring piece of evidence? Someone commented on the video asking his source on everything, the guy responded with something like "I know people" and they conversed back and forth a few more times until the poster deleted all of his comments and the responses he had made too.
So yeah, besides the SOAP stuff which we all know is true and obvious, everything else is an assumption based on rumors that surrounded the original reveal of the trailer.
