Fan made remake of Streets of Rage has finally been released by the team that has been working on it for the past 8 years. I remember a long time ago, maybe around 2004, I was looking at the site excited for the release.

Now we are in 2011 and can now play it. The final product is massive with over 93 stages in story mode. You can download it below.

93 stages in a beat-em-up?! That is insane! I'll have to check this out.

This is Version 2, they released a semi complete build a few years back.

  3. It would be good if you said it was for Windows in the post. Kind of got my hopes up. Looks cool.

Sorry Emmett, will update to warn Linux and Mac users. Though the blog says there is a Linux version coming.

I downloaded the latest build and didn't like it.

While they've come a long way since 2007, it isn't long enough.

What didn't work well with me in 2007, is still there the hodge podge visual style with Sprites from SOR1, 2 and 3 fucked into 1 game.

The visual style while much more under control then the 2007 build is still unsettling, seeing punks from SOR 1,2 & 3 in one game is very weird.

I told them to upgrade the characters from previous games that didn't make it in SOR3, for all those that did there SOR3 sprites alone were sufficent.

Also the original SEGA sprites are really showing their age in 2011, especially since other fan games have drawn new HD sprites altogether.

    Not Happy….

I recommend playing Beats of Rage (latest build!)
