Sonic Team’s attempt at a Tony Hawk game

Assembler games forum member got his hands on an XBOX 1 devkit. A lot of unreleased games were unearthed, including “SONIC EXTREME”. SONIC EXTREME looks like Sonic Team’s attempt at Tony Hawk… quite literally! You can see Sonic doing Tony Hawk style skateboard tricks.

So yeah… just think. We could have had a Sonic game like this! This was an amusing video to watch and I just had to share it with you guys!

Probably was gonna be a mini-game in a separate Sonic title I would think, or maybe a pre-cursor to Riders. I would find it surprising if they had ever intended this as a stand alone title.

well obviously it wouldn't be just that level. its a tech demo. but.. i could see them making a game like that =P they always seemed to be trying to make stuff that appealed to Americans, and Tony Hawk style games were all the rage then.

  3. Cool! I thought it would be completely offensive, but the environment looks great! Sort of like a 6th gen Sonic Jam Sonic World. I'd actually preferred it if Riders turned out to have that sort of Sonic model and environment. Way better than noodle armed Sonic in high tech world.

Man, I would have been so into this if it came out in 2003 or so.

But I am really happy it does not exist outside of this. I cannot imagine what this could have done to the series, even if I think the demo seems surprisingly playable for such an early version.

They have come a long way since that art though. Look how bland the Heroes-styled "Classic" look is compared to every other major release in the series, outside of Sonic 06 of course. No originality at all, that entire level could have another skin from anything to a city to a workshop and it would not have effected anything.

    Complete with cheesy Sonic rock.
