Trailer: GunLord

NG:Dev recently released a new trailer for their upcoming Dreamcast/Neo Geo game, and while its production values may not be much to look at, the actual game play looks pretty damn good. It’s nice to finally have a new shoot em up platformer on the Dreamcast. What do you think of the game? Tells us about it on the forums!

You can pre-order the game here.

I appreciate every new release for the Dreamcast and it could’ve been much worse, but I’d rather play some Mega Turrican Instead. I don’t like the look of the main charakter, I don’t like the colors, I don’t like the bad animated bosses.

I’m looking forward to playing Duranik’s Sturmwind, that game seems to touch the power of the Dreamcast.

  2. DCGX says:

Yeah NG:DEV really needs to either develop the Dreamcast releases separate from the Neo-Geo releases, or drop the Neo-Geo releases all together to make a game visually up to snuff with ones like Sturmwind. That said, it is a new DC game and I have pre-ordered the limited edition.

Sturmwind has been in development for five years though, and is an addition to a genre Dreamcast already gets loads of these days. In the time it took to make Sturmwind, NG:Dev has made three games.

I like Dreamcast only releases, but I like unique releases on the Dreamcast just as much.

  4. Hergen says:

It’ in development for 6 years. And I’m also happy to see another genre with Gunlord, but Mega Turrican really is better (judging from what I see in Gunlord’s Trailer, maybe I’m wrong).

  5. DCGX says:

Yeah not really fair on calling it out as an inferior game since none of us have played it yet. (And if anyone here has, how is it?!)

  6. CrazyTails says:

THis looks a bit too simple for my taste. Music is the only thing i’m liking, the visuals look 16 bit and the animation of the sprite look like something a B company would deliver back in the 16 bit era.

Yeah.. i’m harsh towards a independent company but this is simply not something i would buy.

  7. Shizzle says:

It is a Neo-Geo port you morons.

Neo-Geo Development Team port Neo-Geo games to other platforms, expecting that to abandon that is stupid. Just like we are SEGA fans they are SNK fans first and then SEGA fans.

They have another company called HUcast that develop games for Dreamcast.

  8. Hergen says:

I know that. I compared the game with another (older but imo better) 16 bit game. I didn’t ask them to quit developing NG games, I just said that I don’t like what I see in the trailer.

HUcast is a company of René Hellwig only and is not related to the NG:DEV.TEAM GbR.

    You moron.

Alright, enough with the insults. I’ve deleted the comments.

It’s silly to say a game is definitely better when you haven’t played it. I’m sure Mega Turrican is great, but watching a game is very different from playing it. Video gaming is all about input. It’s not passive. So while videos can give us an idea of what kind of game it is, how it’s graphics are, how it sound is, it does not tell us how it plays.

And Dreamcast fans should be grateful to even get this game. NG:Dev stands for Neo Geo Dev. They are a Neo Geo dev first. Considering my passion is in Dreamcast, not Neo Geo, I’m glad their including a platform I like to play.

I’m sorry, I guess I misunderstood your question “What do you think of the game?”.

Praise NG:DEV.Team! Don’t rate what you see, that’s silly!

  11. CrazyTails says:

I had never played mega turrican in my life, but wow that looks amazing (youtube)

  12. Hergen says:

It really is. I didn’t mean to insult Gunlord with the comparison. I was hoping that it would be better than MT. But in my opinion at least the graphics are worse in Gunlord.

  13. CrazyTails says:

How haven’t I ever heard of MT? I feel ashamed 🙁

Well I don’t know what was stated in your deleted post hergen, but I agree with what’s been said by you. MT looks better allthough I also support nuckles about supporting new dreamcast games…

  14. Hergen says:

I also do, and usually I buy every game of NG:DEV Team too. The Metal Slug Series, Samurai Shodown and many Shooters on the NG belong to my alltime favorites.

  15. Hergen says:

I know that those are not made by the Hellwigs, I just wanted to point out that NG ports in general are very welcome.
