Sumo Digital challenges SEGA community to get behind 3 DLC characters

Are you not happy with All Stars Racing’s current line up? Are there some other characters you’d like to see included in future DLC releases? Well, now may be your chance to let Sumo Digital and SEGA know… if you’re willing to work with other SEGA fans. Here is the challenge Sumo Digital Executive Producer Steve Lycett issued to the SEGA community on the SEGA forums a few days ago:

I’ll set you a challenge. Without any policing from the SUMO or SEGA crew, if you can all agree on three characters by the 1st of December and prove there is sufficient interest of at least 1000 unique people *per* character, I will present the result to SEGA. I can’t promise anything will happen as a result, but since you’re starting it…

Let’s see if you can organise yourselves in the next few weeks to pull that off!

My sole hints, first you probably need to define some rules, then agree on who will police them, and then run it fairly (no cheating) and deliver something professional and credible I’d be able to use. You are on your own for the rest

So nothing is guaranteed. Still, if the community can actually organize itself and put its weight behind three characters, we may get some awesome SEGA DLC characters. Are you guys up for this?

    Signed for Alis. Fingers crossed.

    Only three?

    Ah well, I’d say…

    1.Ryo Hazuki
2.Edge ~ (from Panzer Dragoon Saga)
    3.A Phantasy Star character

More stages would be good too, but that’s probably asking for too much, considering they only just managed to bother with one character and one stage last game which was Metal Sonic and the Death Egg. – Plus the game would have to sell really well for them to consider more.

I think we have enough Sonic characters in the game for now, especially if their only going to bring three more out.

Would have liked to see Segata San Shiro in it, it would have given him his first ever Western debut to the western audience, but it’s very very unlikely now.

Can’t have everything all the time I suppose.

Too obscure and besides, I think they are already passed the stage where out of the blue entries can be submitted but, Green from gunstar heroes deserves a spot based on the game mechanics alone.

He already has a vehicle that transforms, Let alone that he is one bad-ass sega character.

    I just want billy

I don’t know why everyone wants Segata. Maybe I missed the wave of popularity on this one, but he’s just a dude in a white Gii (or whatever). Not very fun or exciting. Plus he’s just a marketing gimmick, like Kevin Butler for PS3.

There should probably be includion of some actually recognizable Sega brands. Like Virtua Cop, or Virtua Fighter.

My point is why not use characters that people will actually recognize beyond this tiny Sega core community who all seem to want to outdo each other with obscure references.

I’m really happy with the game overall and with the characters and tracks already present.

    Just my two cents.

All I have to say is….**** HATSUNE MIKU.

  7. Kori-Maru says:

Sakura Shinguji for the win. This game lacks some good Japan-only characters.

  8. Plant says:

As if they couldn’t just take all these characters and turn them into 2-3 DLC packs… nooo, we must let people vote and then disappoint the majority with our final choice.

  9. Geed says:

After the last game where all we got was Metal Sonic and a forklift, I’m not sure I trust any DLC forthcoming would be worth it. I do hope Sumo proves me wrong.

  10. SkyBlue says:

I voted for a large amount of characters…since they all deserve a chance.

Too bad that Alis and Opa Opa are low in priorities though. 🙁

  11. Arturomaru says:

How about good old Harrier inside an Opa-Opa vehicle? A Phantasy Star slot based on vehicles from 1 or 4 would be awesome. I would also like to see an Ecco the Dolphin track, it would match with the whole game idea again, because it would have water, land and air. How about a Rez stage? OR BETTER YET, A POWER DRIFT STAGE? Man, i have so many ideas…
