Shining Resonance Refrain demo hits PS4, Xbox One & Nintendo Switch today

If you have any of the three modern consoles you will be able to play SEGA’s upcoming Shining Resonance Refrain for free! This will let you see if the game is for you, giving you hands-on time early. How early? A month early considering that the full game hits America and Europeans on July 10, 2018!

Sadly there is no demo announced for the Steam or PC version of the game, which sucks if you are a PC gamer only. But three out of four platforms isn’t too shabby by SEGA. Are you going to be giving Shining Resonance Refrain a chance?

Much prefer it if it were on a Sega hardware obviously.

    But I digress…

Any good? Never did get as much into the Shining series as much as I probably should’ve considering it’s Sega.

I’m swerving the demo and saving myself so can’t answer that. I had the PS3 original purchased and was going to play that then this was, thankfully announced!

I have heard good things about it though …the music being something quite special.

also, It has a cool random dungeon creator which was DLC before but now included from the offset which keeps the game open-ended if you can’t get enough of it.

it has little relation to what has gone before with the modern (current) series but is certainly set in the same continuity. There is a flimsy story connection to Blade Arcus from Shining which DID have a Western release on STEAM …so SEGA’s advertising that this is the first new Shining game in the West for over a decade is a bit of a hook but one I’m happy to roll with.

I think this is how it has come to get a Western release actually as it has no confusing story ties for new and old fans alike so it can be played with fresh eyes…

the producer who has worked on the (modern) series from Shining Tears on wards (though credited for Shining Soul 2 in some respects) has now left …Resonance and Blade Arcus being his final work. So basically all Shining games with Tony Taka’s artwork are his efforts.

Where the series goes from here on out is anyone’s guess!

Can anybody give me (a first timer to the series aside from brief encounters with a couple of the MegaDrive Shining games) any pointers to sell this to me?

I like the fact it’s like a traditional Japanese RPG though what differentiates it from being generic?
I want to get this but my appetite could do with some insight into what sets it apart to speed me up into prioritising it, the Shining series is another long running Sega series I’ve been meaning to get into with at least some dedication but there’s been minimal opportunity until now, probably as this is the first title in the series to make it West in over a decade.

Play from “Shining in The Darkness” to “Shining Force 3”

    Everything sucked after that.

I’m sorry, but elf boobs will not save Refrain. This game has poor cutscenes with still images like a light novel dating sim and a bland story with bland characters that look like every other generic anime game, be it hack n slash or whatever. I relize that not all the games in the series have been SRPG, but this is really shallow to me. Sega promised that there will be different Shining games in the future. I’m holding out for that and I hope they learn from Valkyria Chronicles 4. That game should sell decently enough.

hitax my comment is awaiting moderation …as it contained a link to this games official site?

    shiningresonance com

should have plenty of helpful information under ‘System’ then ‘Battle’ ‘Relationship’ and ‘World’

People who have played the game rate characterization over the main story.
