On April 17, the official Sonic movie Twitter account revealed that the Knuckles series for Paramount+ was in production. The reveal included a clapper board with the series logo, the reveal that Sonic movie series director Jeff Fowler was returning and a sly inclusion of Knuckles treasure hunter hat as first seen in the 1996 Sonic the Hedgehog anime movie.
Even more information came by way of a Deadline article which revealed that Idris Elba is returning to voice Knuckles, and the cast will include Tika Sumpter (as Maddie Wachowski) Adam Pally (as Tom’s friend Wade), Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor and Rory McCann. According to Deadline, “the series is currently in production and will follow Knuckles on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.”
Jeff Fowler will direct the first episode and Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington and Toru Nakahara will serve as executive producers on the series. Idris Elba also serves as an executive producer, and additional directors for the series include Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone and Carol Banker.
John Whittington, who wrote Sonic 2, will write the pilot and serve as head writer. Other writers include Brian Schacter and James Madejski.
