Endless and Humankind developer Amplitude Studios breaks from SEGA, returning to being independent

Founded in 2011 by former Ubisoft staffers and purchased by SEGA in 2016, Amplitude Studios has announced that they are a fully independent studio again. During their time under SEGA’s umbrella, the studio released several games including Humankind and Endless Dungeon, as well as a free game titled Endless Zone which was their take on Fantasy Zone. The announcement was made in a message titled “Returning to our Roots”, which included a statement from founder Romain de Waubert de Genlis.

Our studio is backed by strong and meaningful franchises and our team is committed to creating the best games possible. With our extensive experiences in strategy game development and two exciting titles currently in progress, we are confident in our ability to deliver outstanding experience to players. This decision allows us to be more agile in our approach while continuing to shape the vision that has been ours from the very beginning, empowering us to push boundaries and be closer as ever of our community. While we are going our separate ways now, we part on good terms and wish our friends at Sega the best for all their future projects.”

Amplitude joins Relic Entertainment as another strategy game studio that departed SEGA. The move is another example of SEGA Europe moving away from being a PC strategy powerhouse. We here at SEGAbits wish Amplitude Studios all the best! Thanks for the games, especially the Fantasy Zone freebie!
