SEGA’s First Store, SEGA Store Shanghai, Opens Today

The world’s first official SEGA store, SEGA Store Shanghai, has opened today. The store features a variety of in-store experiences, including original merchandise designed with local flair, interactive displays, and memorable photo opportunities.

SEGA established its Transmedia Business Unit in April 2024, expanding the company’s legendary IP portfolio spanning 65 years into other forms of media beyond gaming to provide fresh and exciting new content to fans across the globe.

Beginning with the launch of SEGA’s first official store in Shanghai, the company is considering further expansion in other areas such as Shibuya, Japan as it brings their transmedia strategy into real-world experiences.

Two things seems very interesting to me:

    – First SEGA store was opened in China with all the (former) console bans and (present) censorship and trade disputes. Japan or UK (Namco has 3 stores in the UK!) would be more logical.

    – Shinobi is displayed very prominently, even though it is just a small game and there are still 4 months before release.

Yeah. Kind of peculiar they opened in china first. There is a sega joypolis in Shanghai I believe and sega has worked with Chinese games studios on the transformers rails shooters and most recently the mission impossible arcade shooter through the now independent sega amusements (in the America’s and europe at the least). Maybe those decisions some years ago had something to do with sega opening there stores in China first. But hey, what do I know?
