Nearly thirty years after first haunting arcades, one of horror gaming’s biggest names is reawakening! With just three days to go until Halloween comes the most ambitious build yet: House of the Dead Reawakened.
This two-player, attendant-free horror attraction brings the terror to life in a chilling, theme park-inspired manor cabinet. The cabinet sets the atmosphere and becomes an irresistible draw. Modelled on the game’s own manor, it pairs two 43” vertical displays—the manor’s side windows—with an 85” display as the main entrance. At first, all you see is shuttered windows and a locked front door. Then the windows blow open, the door bursts wide, and onlookers get a glimpse of the horrors waiting inside.
House of the Dead Reawakened runs on Unreal Engine 5, delivering VR graphics through the DPVR E4C, a commercial-grade, reliable headset. Screen-filling hordes of mutant creatures and horror environments are rendered in more detail than the arcade sector has seen before, all on dedicated hardware.
The game was developed by Sega Amusements with 3Mindwave in Hong Kong—the development team behind VR Agent and ATV Slam—and will make its debut at IAAPA Orlando from November 17–20.
I’ll be reporting for SEGAbits to provide coverage on House of the Dead Reawakened.
