Atlus bringing Etrian Mystery Dungeon to North America

EtrianMysteryDungeonLogo
A little over a week ago I posted that Etrian Odyssey x Mystery Dungeon game was announced and just like that Atlus has confirmed it is publishing it in America. Not only that, the game will be coming to America in Spring of 2015. You see, us SEGA fans are used to waiting up to a year after the game comes out in Japan before we even hear if its going to come to America and even then we best hope for the best.

Atlus is so ahead of the curb that there is already English translated screenshots and there hasn’t been ANY screenshots in Japanese released for the game. Atlus can you please publish Shining Resonance, Phantasy Star Nova and Yakuza 5? I mean, its even been over two years since SEGA announced Phantasy Star Online 2 was coming to America.

Check out the screenshots, game description after the break.

SEGA announces new rhythm arcade game ‘Chunithm’

SEGA has just announced another rhythm arcade game, this time called Chunithm, that has already been hitting CLUB SEGA Akihabra since November 28th. This new rhythm game joins SEGA’s last few rhythm games such as Crackin DJ, Project Diva and MaiMai.

Chunithum is also set to have songs from MaiMai in it. SEGA will be giving away a limited mini-soundtrack album to promote the new arcade. You can see the cabinet design and cover to the mini-soundtrack below. Am I the only one waiting for Virtua Fighter 6? What is this? What…

SEGA reveals new traumatic DLC for Alien: Isolation

The latest DLC for Alien: Isolation‘s Survivor Mode is now available for you to download. This DLC is dubbed “Trauma” as it introduces Sevastopol’s medical officer, Dr. Lingard, as a playable character. You will control Dr. Lingard as you explore three new maps as she seeks to destroy her research on the Alien creature. The DLC has launched on PC,  Xbox One and of course Xbox 360. Sadly Sony gamers will have to wait for the store to update Thursday to get it on Playstation 3 and Playstation 4.

Trauma is the second DLC pack of five that SEGA is set to release and will join the first DLC titled ‘Corporate Lockdown’, that launched in October. The next pieces of DLC are set to be titled ‘Safe Haven’, ‘Lost Contact’ and ‘The Trigger’. You can get all the DLC for $30 in the game’s season pass, which is half off right now on Steam. Each DLC is priced at $8 individuality or you can just wait for the Game of the Year edition later next year, but that’s none of my business.

Unboxing Persona Q limited edition 3DS XL

A few months ago we brought you an unboxing of a launch day Dreamcast, this time we are bringing you a short unboxing of the limited edition Persona Q 3DS XL from Gamestop. I have to say, this is the nicest looking special edition 3DS that I have seen and definitely worth looking into if you can’t wait for the New 3DS XL models to hit North America next year.

So if you have any questions about the Persona Q limited edition 3DS XL, let me know in the comments below. Thanks for watching!

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric demo coming to Wii U eShop

SonicWiiU

I’m sure you guys all want to get your hands on Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric just to see if this game is as big of a train wreck as most people are saying online. Guess what? SEGA will give you the chance on December 4th, when a demo will hit the Wii U eShop.

This isn’t the first Sonic the Hedgehog game to get a post-launch demo, this also happen with Sonic Team’s Sonic Lost World also on the Wii U. The demo will be available on both European and American Wii U eShops this Thursday. Now my only question is if they are actually going to patch and fix some of these glaring issues in the game? If its like past games, I’m going to assume they will ignore that the game ever existed and so will we.

Round Table: Our favorite SEGA developed Saturn games

SEGASaturnHeader

We are coming to a close in our SEGA Saturn Month here at SEGAbits, so we decided to go out in a bang by telling you guys our favorite SEGA in-house developed game. SEGA had a power house of developers during the 90’s and most of them really hit their strides during the Saturn, we know its hard to pick just one game, so we will also be listing three more titles as honorable mentions.

Like always, if you guys want to let us know your favorite SEGA developed Saturn titles, you can do so in the comments section.

Rodea: The Sky Soldier gets new screenshots, story and gameplay details

rodea-s-17-1

Rodea: The Sky Soldier was originally set to be a Wii game and now is going to get new life next year on both the Wii U and 3DS. Just last week the publisher, Kadokawa Games released a new trailer for the game and not much else. But now they have released the story overview, character profiles, gameplay details, and even a ton of new screens.

The story has empires, battle with technology and other themes present in past Sonic Team games. They even added a hint of Panzer Dragoon in there for good measure with its little map and on-rails looking gameplay.  Not only that, the Wii U version of the game also got a filter that gives it a sketched out feel, similar to what Valkyria Chronicles did compared to the Wii original. Oddly enough no 3DS screenshots have been shown yet.

Welcome to SEGAbits Model 5: New Redesign For a New Generation

OpaOpaBigFeat

Welcome to SEGAbits Model 5, the new look for our blog! Our web designer has been hard at work coming up with a new look that modernizes the blog with a more responsive layout, making it easier to access our featured content. Unlike most blogs, we decided to go custom instead of just buying a pre-made skin, wanting to give the site a unique feeling. I hope you guys enjoy navigating through our content and news that we all worked hard on putting together.

So tell us in the comments what you think about the site and any features you want implemented. We are working on adding more things to the new look as time goes on, especially next year when we will be having some really exiting new content. It should be a great ride! Welcome to the next level!

Yuji Naka’s Rodea: The Sky Soldier gets new trailer showing off Wii U footage

Yuji Naka’s Rodea: The Sky Soldier is a weird story, seeing as it was supposed to be released on the Wii in 2011, even Yuji Naka said the title was completely done and just needed to be released by publisher Kadokawa games. No information was released and even Yuji Naka said he wasn’t sure if the game was going to be released last year. Well, thankfully the publisher Kadokawa games came to its senses since they announced the game coming for both Wii U and 3DS.

Seems that they are sticking with the Spring 2015 release window for Japan. Now we have a trailer showing off footage of the game and as you can see it looks like very low quality Wii graphics. But you know what? The game looks so fun, that it can be running on the Sega Saturn and I’d buy it. Let’s hope this is a good one, for Prope’s sake.

SEGA Tunes: Shining Force III’s Sanctity & The Dragon’s Graveyard

Shining Force III Scenerio 2 & 3 never made it to America, which is too bad because the games where all fantastic. This track is from the 1st Scenario of the game, called “Sanctity”, which is one of the most epic tracks that I have ever heard in a game. I love the way it starts out simplistic enough and just adds layers throughout making it a very pleasant listen. Moving from epic, to haunting and back to absolutely beautiful.

No one quite does it like Motoi Sakuraba, who has worked on music for the first two Star Ocean games, Valkyrie Profile, Golden Sun series, and many more. The soundtrack to Shining Force III is so great, that I’ll embed another song after the break. For FREE, that’s right, 100% off! How’s that for a Black Friday deal?

Atlus announces Etrian Odyssey V and Mystery Dungeon x Etrian Odyssey

EtrianOdysseyV
Do you like Etrian Odyssey? If so, I have good news for you! The not-so-hot selling franchise, Etrian Odyssey will not only get a new entry to the franchise but also have a new cross-over game with Mystery Dungeon.

Mystery Dugeon x Etrian Odyssey is basically going to be a Mystery Dungeon style game with Etrian Odyssey characters (some older Mystery Dugeon cameos will be included). The music will be done by legendary video game music composer Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage series, Revenge of Shinobi) and the art  direction will be handled by Nizo Yamaoto (Princess Mononoke). This game is slated to be released in Japan next March.

As for Etrian Odyssey V, it was announced along with a list of people working on the game. This includes director Shigeo Komori, character designer Yuji Himukai, veteran composer Yuzo Koshiro, and monster desginer Shin Nagasawa.

To see the teaser trailers  for both Etrian Odyssey V and Mystery Dungeon x Etrian Odyssey hit the jump.

SEGA Saturn’s 20th Anniversary: Celebrating Decades of Arcade Perfection

SEGASaturn20thAnniversaryDecades
The SEGA Saturn turns 20 years old today and I thought it would be a good time to discuss the popularity of the Saturn in the land of the rising sun because if we did this article on its life in America it would be a very depressing and frankly this means I can write about Segata Sanshiro which is always fantastic.

So let’s get to it and if you like this article you might want to also check out a similar article I did on the Dreamcast for its 15th year anniversary.

Phantasy Star Nova is including Valkyria Chronicles 3 outfits

VC3
Seems that SEGA is trying to bring the Valkyria Chronicles series back to life, first with the PC port of the first game (that came out today, by the way) and now this crossover with Phantasy Star Nova.

Phantasy Star Nova gives you the option of using a Valkyria form costume of the character Riela Marcellis. We have covered other collaborations like Resonance of Fate, Star Ocean  and Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. Phantasy Star Nova will be getting a second demo on November 13th on the Japanese PSN.

What do you guys think of all these Phantasy Star collaborations? Should this continue to be a staple of the series or is it getting out of hand?

SEGA Tunes: Battle Garegga flies you to the leaden sky

Battle Garegga is a fabulous vertical arcade shooter that was ported exclusively to the SEGA Saturn in Japan. Not into the genre? Who cares, you don’t have to care how a game plays to appreciate this fabulous piece of music. That’s the thing I like about Japanese games, they usually tried to hook you right at the first stage and offer you a bombastic opening track. Battle Garegga‘s Stage 1: Valley song is no different, a great opening track that has you hooked right at the first note.

So what are you waiting for? Hit play and fly to the leaden sky.
