Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll Review

Such a weird concept, who thought about making a game about monkeys in balls that you roll down tracks? I mean its borderline insane, even more insane is that this is now a franchise. Hit the jump and read our review for the latest entry in the Super Monkey Ball franchise.

SEGA trademarks Drama Engine for US and Europe

SEGA has trademarked “Drama Engine” for both North America and Europe, it will be used for video games and also for 3D computer graphic software and facial motion capture software. What is it?

Well one would guess is that its some sort of middleware? Some people think it might have something to do with SEGA’s facial imagining game Project Beauty for the NDS. Hard to know what it is really, any guesses here?

Win limited edition Ryo Hazuki forklift figurine

Look at that awesome figure, wouldn’t you want to have one? I would! Problem? There are only 75 made. So you should all sign up and hope to get one. If not you can always try ebay and pay way too much for one. Enter the contest here.

Getting that error? Well, I forgot to mention that the contest is only for US residents only.

Yakuza movie coming west, used to promote Yakuza 3?

[Covers sort of look alike, cross promotion?]

Seems the Takashi Miike film titled “Like a Dragon” (the Japanese name for Yakuza series) is coming to America, over here it will be called Yakuza: Like a Dragon. The film cover even looks sort of like the cover for Yakuza 3, only better because the Yakuza 3 cover is uglier; they both share the same Yakuza logo.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is being released on February 23rd and you can pre-order that here. Yakuza 3 gets a March 9th release date, a must have pre-order.

Resonance of Fate sends out Valentines Day cards

What is a better way of celebrating Valentines Day tomorrow than pretending that your video game girlfriend sent you a Valentines Day card? Nothing… is better…  so print it out and hang it on your wall. This is what the card says:

“Hey, have you heard of Valentines Day? Well, if you don’t know, it’s okay. Here are some chocolatez. Why? I wonder why!”

Now you can also pretend you know Japanese. To top the evening off below we have a series of Reanbell angle shots that show her underwear. You know, for when the evening gets romantic. Hit the jump for that.

Nagoshi teases Yakuza 4 demo, says its coming soon

[Watching Kazuma sing is still a bit odd]

Seems that SEGA of Japan is having a retail tour, showing off a demo of Yakuza 4, but what good does that do us? None! But Toshihiro Nagoshi has talked about a PSN demo via his blog, saying it will be coming.

When? Well Nagoshi can’t say right now,  but if it follows Yakuza 3‘s schedule we shall see the demo a week before the retail game is released. Nagoshi has also said that commercials and retail promotional videos for Yakuza 4 are already done.

SEGAbits Swingin’ Report Show #1: Episode One

Here is the first SEGAbits podcast, proudly named the “Swingin’ Report Show” and if you didn’t get the reference, it is from Space Channel 5. Sorry if we freeze up sometimes, I have not done a podcast since forever and I’m sure Sharky and Aki-at haven’t done one in a long time either. Besides that, enjoy our very first show!

Yakuza 3 gets first developer diary

SEGA is doing a series of developer dairies with Nagoshi about Yakuza 3. Must be weird, since he is also promoting Yakuza 4 in Japan. Isn’t that sort of like, time travel? He talks about his influences and the Japanese way of telling stories.

I mean, not much new but I just enjoy watching Nagoshi speak, in a heterosexual way.

Sonic Classic Collection getting special edition

That is right, the Nintendo DS Sonic Classic Collection game is getting a special edition version, the problem is that it is only for Spain and Australia. It is a shame since it looks really awesome. It comes with the following:

  • A limited edition tin
  • 5cm Sonic Figurine (done by First4Figures)
  • 5 collectable artcards

I will probably import a copy for myself, if I have extra cash I might get a few extra ones to give out? Is that something that you guys would like?

A look at SEGA All-Star Racing’s achievements

SASASRachivements

The achievements for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing were posted a few days ago, but it was missing the secret achievements; now the list is complete. As for trophies, I assume they will all be the same, it even has an achievement that acts like a platinum trophy called “Ultimate Collection.”

The names for the achievements are awesome, love all the SEGA references, it even has Project Rub. Kudos to the guys at Sumo Digital, they know how choose achievement names. Check all the achievements here.

SEGA having another PSN sale this week

SEGA has announced that they will be having a Valentine’s day sale on their PSN content; the games listed this time are the same as their New Years sale it seems. They promised that this time they will have bundles, something that was missing from the last sale.

Crazy Taxi, Full Auto 2, Sonic Unleashed DLC, Valkyria Chronicles DLC, and Sonic Rivals 1 and 2 have all been confirmed to be in the sale. Maybe SEGA will make a really nice Valkyria Chronicles DLC bundle for us.

Lamb of God writing a song for Iron Man 2

SEGA has signed up two time Grammy-Nominated heavy metal band Lamb of God to write a song for their upcoming Iron Man 2 video game. The song being used in the game is going be completely new and written exclusively for the game.

“The music of Lamb of God definitely evokes the intensity of Iron Man action and we are very excited to have them working with us for the game, This new track will add even more atmosphere to the cinematic gaming experience that Iron Man 2 brings to the table.” – Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America.

I wouldn’t consider myself the biggest Lamb of God fan, but I have seen them live a few times and they do put up a great show. Hit the jump to read the full press release.
