Sega Invites Destructoid Over For Cake

Sega continues to heckle Destructoid over Jim Sterling’s review of Sonic Colours by inviting Jon Carnage to Sega of Americas HQ and awarding Destructoid with a 4.5 cake.

Jim Sterling gave Sonic Colours a 4.5/10 while the average score was around the 8/10 mark amongst other (better) critics.

Recently Sega also sent Jim Sterling a review copy of Sonic Colours DS with a picture of Sterling depicted as a troll stuck to the cover. Not satisfied with that, Sega also sent him a giant poster of Sonic Colours after his (pretty terrible) review hit the net.

I think Sega have handled a rather poor review pretty well, showing they have a sense of humour and taking a few digs at Destructoid along the way. If anything I think it shows good faith in their product.
Well played Sega.

Conduit 2 – Intro Trailer

“Conduit 2 fans rejoice, today we reveal new video footage of High Voltage Software’s Wii FPS! The video, which features a cinematic look at Conduit details the ending from Conduit 1 and the intro for Conduit 2.”
-Sega

Well, the intro looks good at least. I get a bit of a Half Life 2 vibe from it, I think that’s what they were trying to capture with ‘The Conduit’ story line.

Yeah, I don’t expect it to play anything like Half Life either… But it would be nice!

Bayonetta 2!? – Hideki Kamiya hints on Twitter!

While Platinum Game / Mikami’s 3rd person shooter ‘Vanquish’ seems to have bombed sales wise. (If you didn’t buy it then it’s your fault and I’ll never forgive you.) Hideki Kamiya’s Bayonetta on the other hand did very well for Platinum and Sega.

Easily two of my favorite games this generation, so at least one of them is looking up in regards to a sequel. Kamiya has hinted today on his twitter account that Bayonetta 2 might be on the way!

The teaser comes from a twitter convocation between Kamiya and another guy going by the name ‘Grecco’. Grecco asks Kamiya if it is possible to get the prototype version of Bayonettas character model from the recently released footage of a Bayonetta prototype released as DLC for Bayonetta. Kamiya replied “Perhaps in Bayonetta 2” to which Grecco replied, “So are you confirming Bayonetta 2?”. Kamiya reluctant to give anything away replied simply with. “Oh you think so?”

So not exactly a confirmation, but not a denial either and considering the pretty good sales. I think it’s only a matter of time.

Yakuza 4 Story Trailer – Must Watch!

What ever you do today, don’t miss this trailer!

Why? Because it is easily the best English trailer for a Yakuza game, ever! It’s even better than the original Yakuza games trailers, back when they were really trying to break into the western market!

The trailers shows basically everything the Yakuza series is about, has a great narrator, script and manages to be funny too. It really delivers!

If you still haven’t jumped into the Yakuza series Yakuza 4 is the perfect place to jump in. Considered the best game in the series yet by many it is also not necessary to have played the previous games to get into the story.

Sega Reveals Bayonetta Prototype

Sega have posted some neat gameplay videos of Bayonetta in its Prototype stages on their youtube channel. The Prototype almost looks as good as the final product and in a few instances I think it looks better.

Hit the jump to see the second video and what I think should have made it into the final product!

SEGA does something nice for the community, Sonic fanboy complains

[The sky is blue]

Recently Sega of America held a community event, and a limited number of Sega fans were invited along to play various games and have a focus group session. Dinner was provided by Sega, fancy!

The event was limited to 50 people, but they later extended it to 55 with a hefty waiting list. So you would hope that at least some real Sega fans would get in, right?

Sounds like a nice event all round. Sega of America went out of their way to do something genuinely great for the community…  So it’s kind of disheartening when I’m greeted with the impressions of the event by one ungrateful Sonic fan. What’s new right?

Hit the jump for some choice quotes of his impressions and some screens of inside Sega American.

Sonic Colours TV Spot

Check out the Sonic Colours TV spot!

I like it, it’s got gameplay, a review score flashes up (Even if it is just Nintendo Power…) and some of that good old fashioned humour which 90’s era Sega commercials were known for.

Take note of the book Sonic is holding near the end of the commercial. The cover says,
“Cracked, the biography of Dr. Eggman.”
Great touch!

SEGA Mega Drive Classic Collection – Volume 1 & 2

Relive old memories and create new ones – the SEGA Mega Drive Classic Collection, volumes one and two now available.

A new trailer for ‘Mega Drive Classics Collection’ available on PC. While I enjoy these games and could do with picking up Galaxy Force 2… Most of these have been done to death now.

Lets move onto Saturn collections shall we Sega?

Phantasy Star Online:Blue Burst Ends in Japan. However…

After 6 years, the Japanese Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst servers are going down for the last time. This isn’t just the end of PSO:BB this marks the end of a decade of Phantasy Star Online. The Japanese PSO:BB server was the last, official running server in the legacy of Phantasy Star Online, truly the end of an era.

Here is how the last few months of PSO:BB will play out;
-November 29: Hunters License sales and usage of all special access codes halted.
-November 30 – December 27: Free access to the game servers. December 14
-December 27: Special bonuses applied (rare drops x10, rare enemies x5, EXP x2).
-December 27: Servers go offline at 4:00p.m. JST.

Sad news indeed, but every cloud has a silver lining! In this case, Phantasy Star Online 2!

Posted by EspioKaos of PSOWorld, their resident translator of Japanese,
But fear not, you enduring Hunters of Ragol! In that same announcement, SonicTeam mentions that they are in discussions to grant access to a
Phantasy Star Online 2 “user participation test” (among other things) to Japanese PSOBB subscribers at a later time. No further details are known at the moment, but stay tuned. We’ll be posting more information as it surfaces!

So if you want to beta test Phantasy Star Online 2, I suggest signing up to the Japanese PSO:BB for its final swan song.

Shenmue 10th Anniversary!

Yes! It is 10 whole years to the day… Erm, yesterday. But close enough right?

Shenmue was one of the most ambitious games ever made, it cost a whopping 70 million dollars in total, is the best series I’ve ever played and… Still isn’t bloody finished.

If you have yet to play Shenmue, well you may be a ‘gamer’ but you’ve still got your training wheels on, that’s for sure. Get your act together, go buy a cheap Dreamcast and enjoy a true classic.

If you have, fantastic you are a real man. Here’s to more Shenmue, sometime in the next 10 years! Come on Sega…

Until then, Shenmue City anyone?

Shogun 2 – Story Trailer

This game is simply beautiful, if you have yet to check out the Total War series, you are a fool! Do yourself a favour, jump in now.

Shogun 2: Total War boasts a possible 52 thousand units on screen at once. All fighting it out under your command, or that of your enemy. This would be an impressive feet alone, but look at these graphics, particle effects and motion capture battles. You’ll see why Total War has just no competition when it comes to historical RTS games.

Now if only they would make new IPs with fantasy and even sci-fi settings using the Total War engine, they could mop the floor with the competition there too.

Football Manager 2011 – Demo and Trailer

Above is the official trailer for Football Manager 2011. I can’t say it is my favorite trailer I’ve seen for this series. But I think it is a good idea to go with trailers that are less about the game itself and more about the passion behind the sport. That said I have no passion for football at all.

If FM2011 is relevant to your interests, then you can now download and play the demo:

The Football Manager 2011 Demo is available to download today, free and exclusively in association with Mirror Football. Click the link below to download from Steam and follow the onscreen instructions to install. You will need a Steam account to download, but signing up is free.
