London 2012 Fly-through Trailer

Check out the first trailer for the 2012 London Olympic Games! The trailer is a fly-through of the new Olympic stadium in London, recreated for people who are rubbish at sports to sit on the couch and pretend to be Olympians.

Worth noting we also see for the first time Sega Studios Australia’s new logo, pretty swish! Sega Studios Australia was previously known as The Creative Assembly Australia and developed some of the Total War games and expansions.

I hope they can find a way to innovate and make a good game out of the Olympics.

Aliens Colonial Marines: Collectors Edition – Leaked Picture

Sega and Gearbox Software’s Aliens: Colonial Marines is getting a pretty hot Collector’s Edition. We know this thanks to a leaked shot teasing the collection.

Judging by the leak the CE will come with 3 exclusive in-game multiplayer weapons and an exclusive game mode. (We can only assume these will be available as DLC for anyone who bought the regular edition.) Those who buy the CE will also get an ‘Original USCM Dossier’ and a resin display model of someone piloting the Power Loader. It will all come in a sexy limited edition display case. Nice!

Aliens: Colonial Marines is due this spring for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Sonic 4 Episode 2 Officially Announced

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KhMsQij8H0

Here it goes again! The controversial Sonic 4 is back again for another shot at classic sonic gameplay, Sonic 4 Episode 2 was officially announced today by Ken Balough on Gamespot. Check out the teaser trailer above.

Ken seemed really excited to announce Episode 2 you could see it all over his face, but why? Well Sonic 4 Episode 2 will boast new physics, new graphics and everyone’s favourite two tailed fox Tails!

Now, when talking about changes Ken specifically mentioned that Sonic will no longer stick to walls or ‘uncurl’ as he leaves ramps. Those of course were real problems with Sonic 4 Episode 1. What he didn’t mention but what is by far my biggest gripe with the game is this; when I take my finger off of the forward button is Sonic going to suddenly stop dead in the air? I honestly felt that was the biggest problem with Sonic 4 Episode 1 and that will be the make or break of Episode 2.

What personally I don’t care about at all but would probably go a long way would be a classic model for Sonic and the option to turn on and off the homing attack, maybe for classic Sonic it could be an item in one of those TV screens so he can still get though the level. Just a suggestion!

Ken announced Episode 2 for PSN, XBLA, Windows Phones, iOS and Android devices.

You can see the entire interview with Ken here!

Toshihiro Nagoshi Teases ‘Project-A’

Not satisfied with already having three in development (Binary Domain, Yakuza Black Panther 2 and the recently announced Yakuza 5) Toshihio Nagoshi and the newly formed Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is teasing yet another game in the works. The new game tentatively titled ‘Project-A’ has a teaser site HERE. The teaser site has very little information on it beyond Nagoshi’s big angry face looming over you like a sex criminal. It does however credit the concept of the game to Nagoshi himself and also says that the game will be announced world wide in four days time.

Could it be Yakuza 5? Could it be a brand new IP? Check back in 4 days to find out!

[Thanks Pao]

Renegade Ops Accolades Trailer

Sega just wanted to remind you how good Renegade Ops was, so they made this accolades trailer! Pretty sure this is exactly the same footage as another trailer just with quotes spliced into it… But hey, why not? It does a good job of showing off what Renegade Ops is all about, driving around and blowing stuff up!

It’s a brilliantly fun game that reminds me of classic top down shooters of the 90’s like Jackle and Desert Strike except in beautiful HD graphics, online play and four player co-op. If you haven’t already got it, go treat yourself it’s on PSN, XBLA and Steam and its well worth it.

Rhythm Thief – Has Samba de Amigo and Space Channel 5 Games!

I was pretty excited about Rhythm Thief for the Nintendo 3DS when it was announced and the more I’ve seen of it the more it looks like another fantastic Sega IP. But this little update is probably the most exciting thing I’ve seen so far; A throw back to both Space Channel 5 and Samba de Amigo- two of the best rhythm games ever made! (In my opinion…)

I’m totally sold on this game now, it looks amazing! Now throw in that Hatsune Miku character and grab yourself an easy 200k more sales Sega.

Hit the jump to see the Samba de Amigo gameplay, and another game play video.

Sonic CD is out, it’s cheap and it’s really, really good!

SEGA have done something fantastic today, something you don’t see big publishers doing very often. They have chosen to reach out to the community and nabbed themselves Christian Whitehead aka ‘Taxman’ and his quite marvelous ‘Retro Engine’. It’s my understanding that Whitehead has been developing his ‘Retro Engine’ for quite some time now and gained a name for himself in the Sonic Community, and I can see why. His re-master release of Sonic CD for XBLA, PSN, iOS, Android, Windows Phone and of course PC is really, really good!

Unlike Backbone’s rather poor and often botched efforts at updating SEGA classics, Christian Whitehead’s ‘Retro Engine’ has given us Sonic CD locked at 60fps on every platform, both Euro/Japan and US sound tracks, new features, playable Tails, a choice of filters and modes, achievements and more… It really boasts the lot!

Hit the jump to find out why I think SEGA should snap up Whitehead and his engine!

Crush3D – Story Trailer

Here’s the story trailer for Crush3D, a remake of Crush for the PSP, now on the 3DS. The game seems to have had many changes since the first release on the PSP. The game boasts a new art direction, the story seems to be slightly different and there appears to even be some new levels in the mix.

Crush was met with much praise from critics when it released on the PSP but didn’t fair as well sales wise, let’s hope it can find a better reception on the 3DS because it was a cracking game!

Rhythm Thief – Story Trailer

I think this could be one of the most interesting 3DS titles released so far, certainly the most interesting new IP. It’s got a pretty original concept and I like the art style, It reminds me of Layton mixed with the game play of Elite Beat Agents. I’m quietly confident that this could be a big hit on the 3DS if advertised correctly considering how good Segas previous rhythm based games have been.

Rhythm Thief will release on the 3DS in early 2012.

Binary Domain – Japanese Gameplay Trailer

Every time I see more of Binary Domain I think it looks better and better. I’m surprised at the lack of hype surrounding this game considering it’s a third person shooter. But it wouldn’t be a great Sega game if everyone wasn’t ignoring it!

More Yu Suzuki at Toulouse Game Show 2011

After years of being MIA it’s absolutely fantastic to see one of my heroes back in the public eye again. Here is another video of his Toulouse Game Show appearance and a lot of great questions answered! It’s subtitled in English.

Many thanks to Kenji who translated, subtitled and directed the video and Ziming for uploading it!

Famitsu Reveals – Samurai and Dragons for Vita

Today Famitsu revealed news about a new Sega game for the PlayStation Vita, the game titled Samurai and Dragons. The games chief producer is Masayoshi Kikuchi, a man of high pedigree. Kikuchi was the producer of Yakuza, director of Jet Set Radio and planner of the Panzer Dragoon series which should garner any Sega fans interest.

The game will have two types of game play, the first is a multiplayer dungeon crawler where you team up with three other friends and explore/fight in dungeons (think Phantasy Star Online or Monster Hunter.)

The second half of the game involves city building and resource management similar a strategy game.

Having seen some rather blurry scans, it’s hard to say much about the game. But it seems to be very similar to Sega’s iPad game Kingdoms Conquest, an MMO type game where you join a faction vying for world domination and must battle other factions for control of the land. While I see no indiation that it’ll have that MMO feature from the little info we have I suspect that will be the case.

Yu Suzuki Interview – Toulouse Game Show 2011 (Must Watch!)

Yu Suzuki attended the Toulouse Game Show 2011 and here is an absolutely fantastic interview with Yu Suzuki from the event, possibly the best I’ve ever seen! Yu Suzuki is maybe the most iconic person to have ever worked at Sega, Suzuki is the man behind some of Segas most beloved classics such as OutRun, After Burner, Space Harrier, Hang-On, Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter and of course the ill-fated Shenmue saga.

In this interview by videoxoc.com Yu Suzuki answers some of the most important questions any Sega or Shenmue fan cold pose and they are met with some great replies from Suzuki.

Hit the jump for highlights:

Binary Domain – Japanese Story Trailer 3

Here’s another story trailer for Binary Domain, it’s in Japanese so I can’t say much about it but I’m glad to see it looks as though it’s going to have a pretty deep plot which is what I’ve come to expect from Nagoshi and his new Yakuza Team.

I really hope this game does well for Nagoshi- he really needs to break into the West with both this and Yakuza but to be honest I don’t see a lot of hype around Binary Domain so I’m not convinced. Which is a shame, the guy can’t seem to catch a break.

Binary Domain is a Squad Based shooter Created by the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. (Yakuza)
The game is planned for a world-wide release on February 2012 for PS3 and Xbox360.

[Thanks Suzuki Yu]

VirtuaTennis – 10 Years Gone

It’s a decade since Vitua Tennis first graced the Dreamcast, it seems to me like it was only yesterday I was around my best friends house sitting in their mothers living room playing doubles on Virtua Tennis with his brother. Ah- those were the days!

A decade on and now we’re sitting in our living rooms still playing VT when the mood takes us! I think it says a lot when a person like me, who despises sport of all kind, can still get hours of fun out of a sports game and I’ve wasted many, many hours.

I’m pretty impressed that Sega put together a 40 minute documentary on the history of Virtua Tennis. This is how you celebrate one of your classic series, take note Nintendo!
