SEGA puts Hardlight studio’s first game on hold

Seems that there is bad news for SEGA’s new studio Hardlight. Last time we found out that the title won’t just be on Playstation Vita but also iOS. Now the project is on hold, according to Tom Jubert’s list of projects he is working on. He changed the status to ‘on hold’, which means development has seized for now.

Sort of makes sense, I think their game would have been a pretty cool surprise game to show off at E3.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F for Vita shows up at Sony’s booth

We finished telling you the other day that Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F was getting a white Playstation Vita bundle, seems that the vocaloid has more news up her sleeve for American gamers. It seems that the Vita game is being shown at Sony’s booth this year, but was re-titled to simply “Hatsune Miku” which makes sense. This is what SEGA Japan tweeted:

” A tech demo booth is set up with the game, but it’s still in Japanese. They’re excited to see the surprised reactions from fans touring the expo.”

It is sort of weird that SEGA West completely ignores the title, but SEGA Japan knows very well that its at E3 and at the Sony booth. No news if the game is actually going to come out in America or if Sony just wanted it on the show room floor to show off some of the Vita’s features. Maybe SEGA Japan is testing reaction from the public?

Platinum Games announces a new game at E3, published by Nintendo

Above is the trailer for the new Platinum Games title P-100 (working title), this new game will be published by Nintendo. So why am I posting this here? I think this proves that Platinum Games is basically stepping away from SEGA as a publisher. If you didn’t know, Platinum Games only had a 3 game contract with SEGA. After they finished they still wanted to work with SEGA, but seeing as how SEGA West screwed up their Anarchy Reigns release schedule, that seems a bit hard to do now.

The trailer for the new title is up above, it has a very odd art style from Platinum Games, especially keeping in mind that it’s directed by Hideki Kamiya, who headed Bayonetta, but it seems rather fun. I hope for Nintendo’s sake this is a downloadable title, because I doubt many will pay full retail price for this game. When Platinum Games started they talked about how they wanted to do their own IP and type games. Seems that this new title and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance prove that even artist have to eat.

What do you guys think about the situation, do you guys think Platinum Games is ready to move on?

Japan gets crystal white PS Vita with Hatsune Miku bundle

Sony announced at E3 earlier today that they will be releasing a white Playstation Vita bundle with Assassins Creed 3: Liberation. In Japan the bundle for the “crystal white” Vita comes with Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f instead of the US Assassins Creed 3: Liberation bundle. Unlike the US, in Japan there will also be a stand alone unit, for those that don’t enjoy rhythm type games.

The Hatsune Miku Vita bundle is limited edition package that includes specially designed Hatsune Miku Playstation Vita, a copy of Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f, a 4GB memory card, screen protector, and lastly a AR card.

*UPDATE* Rumor: SEGA shutting down SEGA Europe, last console game to be shown at E3

UPDATE: Community Manager at Sega of America Clumsyorchild and Studio director at Sports Interactive Miles Jacobson are tweeting that these rumors are false.

Wow. It’s that time of year; E3 is around the corner, and that means it’s time to see some  rumors. This one doesn’t sound too outrageous due to all the lay offs that happened a few months back. Not only that, SEGA Europe doesn’t have community managers. Does this mean SEGA Europe will be shutting down and that SEGA will stop making retail games? The rumor states that SEGA will focus on mobile and tablet games. It also says their last big AAA title will be announced at E3, and will be the Creative Assembly’s unannounced Alien game.

Check out the Sonic 4: Episode II billboard in San Francisco

Above photo is taken by frostman007

Look at it, its beautiful. Most non-SEGA fans will whine and ask whats so special about a video game billboard. It’s a SEGA billboard, when was the last time you seen this? Me? Probably forever since I don’t live in a big city. Good to see a sizable advertising budget for a digital title.

This is where you insert something negative, like how Sonic games get a nice advertising budget but games like Binary Domain, Rhythm Thief or Anarchy Reigns get ignored.

SEGA’s list of E3 games goes live

SEGA has posted a list of games they will have at E3. Sadly a few games that are expected are not included. Yep, Anarchy Reigns is missing and Phantasy Star Online 2 is nowhere to be found. I assume some are missing due to being unannounced, like Sonic Adventure 2. Anyway, check out the ‘confirmed’ titles for E3 this year.

Yakuza 5: New Haruka gameplay details released

Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation has finally put out some new gameplay details regarding Yakuza 5. This time they give us a glimpse as to how Haruka will (not) play.
Haruka is a playable character, so many have asked if she would be fighting in the streets like Kazuma and the other main characters of the Yakuza series have done in the past. Well, the answer is no. She will bring a new element of ‘fighting’ to the game. The developers said they will still be keeping it a secret though, but at least we know she won’t be pounding faces on pavement. Also Haruka won’t be able to take part in adult sports spots around the city, most notably she won’t be able to use the host club component since she is underage. But to make up for this the game will have her own exclusive play spots that other characters won’t be able to visit.

Nagoshi said in the interview that the five playable characters don’t have anything to do with this being the fifth title, just happened to work out this way. He also said the scenarios in Yakuza 5 are double of Yakuza 4. So, that is quite a bit!

SEGA Memories: Game Gear promotional events of the 90’s

The Game Gear, SEGA’s little handheld that had a color screen and a very bright back lit screen, is over 20 years old. Sure the device never out sold Nintendo’s juggernaut known as the Game Boy. But if you were a SEGA fan back in the day, the bad battery life didn’t keep you away from owning one. Some people may wonder what sort of promotional events SEGA did before launching a device like the Game Gear. Well, this week on Monday Memories we take a look at “Operation Game Gear” and “Superstar Kids Challenge”.

Watch sexy Asian girls audition to be in Yakuza 5

SEGA has now launched the Miss Yakuza 5 auditions for all those women that want to be in the game as a hostess. SEGA is ready to crown a ‘Miss Yakuza 5’ from each of the game’s five cities. Yes, Yakuza 5 will have five cities. Did you miss the news? Read up here.

Each city will have 3 girls, so people will get to vote for one girl in each of the five cities. You can play vote on the audition campaign site.SEGA will also do a new promotion where the girls, over the coming weeks, will introduce internet viewers to each cities. Showing people local cuisine and other activities.
